Hello all. I have been lurking about for a while and figured it was time to say howdy from the Midwest. I have recently finished all but the pre-op support group, which meets on May 4th. I was told today to start doing Slim Fast, two meals per day on Monday as my doc has sent the approval request to UHC. If all goes well, I will be banded either the week of May 8th or 15th. As with many of you, I am very excited, yet simultaneously experiencing some anxiety regarding the huge change about to occurr in my life. I am so glad that my Doctor gave me information about this forum, as it has helped to inspire and educate me further while preparing for this journey. I have a great deal of weight to lose, but am pumped and determined to make this work. I am hopeful that UHC will approve expeditiously and will probably bug them with daily calls till they do. I am feeling so ready to go for this procedure. I am looking forward to getting to know you folks and will, undoubtedly have a zillion questions as things continue to progress. Thanks so much for being here. I am eager to become a regular contributer to this forum.

Hi Scout, welcome to LBT! I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for a speedy approval process. And you're certainly not alone in your mixed feelings of excitement and nervousness. I thought that the changes in my eating lifestyle was going to be so dramatic in my life but I've found quite the opposite. I still eat well. I still go out to eat with friends and family. But I'm not stuffing myself, or feeling embarassed and uncomfortable in restaraunts, and I'm not wearing those size 26 jeans anymore. I'm in 18s! Trust me. You'll be so busy being happy about the positive changes in your life, that you won't be thinking about what you gave up.

Best of luck to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
