going to ask for an UNFILL after 7 years!!!!!

Recommended Posts

last month i followed up w/my lap band surgeon after 7 years (long story) point is I finally followed up. i have been successfull in that i have kept off almost 50% of my excess body weight ( 55 lbs ) and kept it off - inspite of having two more kiddos. i still have to "spit" someitmes when i eat so my doc recommended not giving me a fill, and to follow the rules a bit more strictly, and come back in a month for a re-eval of my progress. i don't have to spit nearly as much - but i still have to sometimes. i eat slow, take small bites, and usually don't drink w/ my meals. however .... it takes me FOREVER... to finish a meal. i think my band has been tooo tight this whole time and that is acutally slowing down my weight loss!! i see my doc on the 19th (next week.) i'll repost on how my appt goes and my progress. btw. i've lost another 5 lbs since last months dr visit!!!

Sounds like a good plan until you get comfortable eating again I would not add any more to the band.

It's wonderful you're following up with your doctor again.

It is entirely possible that a band that's too tight can slow your weight loss. In fact, it can even result in weight gain. It's great that you're realizing this and letting your doctor help you through it.

Have a look at this article, I think you'll find it very interesting: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/page/index.html/_/support/post-op-support/tighter-isnt-always-better-r118

Best wishes!

Great job! Well, the band gets loose when we lose weight and we need fills. So, if you gained some of your weight back, it has possibly gotten tighter. Since you have recently lost 5 lbs (awesome) it seems like you are on the right track now. Maybe losing a few more pounds will make it not as tight. (you said you aren't spitting as much, maybe because you lost a few). Bottom line is that you have to do what is best for you. Very proud of you for going back after 7 years. That's the great thing about the band. It is still there and will still work!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
