The high Protein diet can stop you up. Add a stool softener and take Miralax until you get relief. You don't want to end up in the ER. Make sure you getting all your non protein fluids in too!

Take a stool softner, not a laxative, because a laxative will cramp you up something wicked.

Drink LOTS of Water.

(TMI coming in 3... 2...1...) If you can feel the feces near the exit but just can't go because you're too constipated, you may want to try a suppository or enema. Neither are pleasant options but they're not painful either. They both work pretty quickly, too.

Hang in there.

Miralax is not a cramping laxative. My doctor has me on it half dose daily, and no cramping.

Not all laxatives are created equal. CHeck with your doctor for recommendations.

Chez is right, you don't want to end up in the ER. I went 7 days and finally called my surgeon I was so miserable, he told me to drink a tiny bit of Magnesium Citrate and boy did that ever get me moving, its nasty but it cleaned me out. Didn't cramp with it, guess I was just impacted.

CVS, Rite Aid, I'm sure even Walmart Pharm might even direct you if they have it.

I am 10 days out and was fine about a day after...The key is LOTS of Water. My diet has been 2-3 protien shakes a day with a lot of cal free beverages in between and I can tell right away if I haven't been drinking my water. Otherwise I agree with the rest that a week seems way too long and I would call just to check. Good luck!!

I admit...water has always been my downfall. I'm sure if I upped my Water intake, I swill see some quick "relief"!!!!

That's a good question. I was banded 3/12 and I just started passing gas yesterday. I'm wondering if I should get some stool softners just to get it going or let the process work itself since I just started passing gas.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
