I was banded by Dr. Aceves in April 2007 and so far I've lost 55 pounds. I started having problems about 3 weeks ago and I'm beginning to get scared. I'm having terrible heartburn and acid reflux. I've haven't had it since the surgery until now. Has anyone else experienced this and if so, how long did it last before it went away. It's been three weeks and I know it's not just the "stomach virus" I first thought it was. Starting to worry....

Shirley...

Haven't heard from you in a long time. There is group going down there on the 29th, I believe for fills. You are welcome to join us and have them take a look under fluoro.

Please call me. I might be able to help.

ShirleyBee,

I'm so sorry for what you are going through. I have to say, though, that I think your instincts are usually right in these cases and it's always better to err on the side of caution. I agree with WABB that you should see a doc, whether you make the trip down to Mexico or see someone locally.

Good luck and I hope everything goes well for you.

Went with Realize.

That is my thinking at this time...It is so strange to read the whole thread about that on here....if you'd like, you could email me about why you chose that rather than have it on here...Thanks again

HI amsderb, I went with Realize 'cause the Dr said there were less incidents with port flippage and just the fact that its new. Hopefully the band has been improved on and some of the issues have been resolved with the older bands. Dr Blackstone said she really doesn't have a problem with port flippage anyway. I'm one month out today and I have my 1st fill 3/25. Doing well, except strange sharp pains that come from the port area from time to time. Other than that I'm doing great. When are you getting banded?

Port flips aren't usually the docs fault, they have no control over them one way or another a majority of the time. When you lose weight your body condenses and kinda sorta makes room for the port as it shrinks. Since doctors have no control over this they can't really determine when it will happen. Most docs don't have a ton of flipped ports.

However, a friend of mine was banded in the country of Jordan and she's already had a flipped port, hers happened before she even had a chance to lose much weight. It looks like a couple of sutures came undone and because of that her port just kinda moves with her. I think she may be going to Mexico to have it fixed, not sure yet. That one was probably the surgeon's fault.

She was in the shower and turned and felt (and heard) a pop. Now her port is amazingly hard to get to.(

I called but you must have been busy. I went to Wendy Hall yesterday and got an unfill and now I'm waiting to see what happens. The acid refluc was killing me. Just a little better but not well by a long shot. Wendy said that she thought that if I had a slippage I wouldn't be able to eat anything and I'm not having a problem with eating although I'm not eating much (by choice) and I'm watching what I'm eating. I had the stomach flu 3 weeks ago and it really did a job on me. Give me a call if you get a chance.

Hi ethansgrandma, why'd you have to have your band replace a little more than a year out?

Are you panning, as in gold panning? What do you teach? Good for you with the chacha dance. Let us know how it goes. I can't wait 6 days to first fill and counting (ok, not really) but I DO need some serious restriction:wink2:

Hi all, just checking in, I am feeling good, lots more energy(with the exception of this stupid virus going around) enjoying eating again, I eat small amounts but notice I get hungrier after about 4-5 hours instead of all day..hesitant to get a fill on the 31st, because I feel like it is too much of an effort to eat in the morning"tight" I guess, it seems to get better around 11 am or so..but doing well my scale says I am down 30 lbs and the primary care docs said 29 yesterday, either way it is fabulous to be fetting healthy, I have been taken off 4 meds altogether now I only have 2 left to go..

Any get togethers coming up anywhere?

Tammy in Mesa:biggrin2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
