Recommended Posts

One of our members posted one of these vids recently. I'm going to post the entire series here. I feel they're a must watch for anyone considering or living with the Lap-Band!

"Dr. Paul O'Brien of the Centre for Bariatric Surgery in Melbourne gives a presentation on obesity, weight loss, and gastric banding. The Eight Golden Rules are meant to guide you to your weight loss goals in partnership with your surgeon."

Wow! That is the most interesting and most thorough information I've had to date. I took lots of notes that I will be taking to my pre-op appt Monday to discuss with my surgeon. The first time I met with him he asked me, "Do you have any questions?" Of course, so new in the process I didn't know what I didn't know. Now I do. With the help of this site and all its wonderful members, and sharing videos such as this, I feel I am so much more prepared. I understand now it's not about restriction, which I (and millions of others, I'm sure) thought that was the point. How interesting! Thanks for posting this. I may not have found it on my own.

Thank you for posting these links, Alex. I had seen a couple of them, but didn't bookmark them ... It's great to have the links in one spot where we can find them. EVERYONE should watch these. Great information presented in a way that's easy to understand. Thank you again.

Great post. As a newbie myself, this was so helpful. I know it's posted many times on the forums, but it's easy to miss. I believe this should be part of our education pre-op as I can tell by reading posts on this forum that many people are as in the dark as I was about how the band really works. That concerns me and I think it's probably dangerous.

Very good set of videos, well-presented and thorough. What surprises me is how different the Australian meal protocol is from my experience in France. He is very adamant about the three small meals or less; my surgeon is equally adamant about three smalls meals and 3 Snacks required per day...even if not hungry. (A snack is a bit of cheese or a couple of spoonfuls of applesauce.)

Thanks for putting these up!

Amazing information! This is SO GREAT for a newbie like me. I have watched a ton of videos on youtube, but all of them are personal stories, journeys, etc. This was so clear and helpful. Thank you, Alex! I am now going to try and find Oyster Forks!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
