How much protein post-op?

Recommended Posts

I'm starting to think about life after surgery....6 days from now. How much Protein am I supposed to try to get in every day? I know it will take different forms as I progress through the food chain again but where do I start?

I'm 5'8" 230 lbs, 5th day postoperative. I was told 70 grams day Protein but at least 40.

I found a website that explains this. Weight x .37 = grams of Protein to eat per day. I'll see how that compares with the info I get from the nutritionist.

miss is correct, each dr and nutritionist will advise you. they recommended for me 70+ per day...so i aim for 70 and if i go over, even better....i do notice my hair and my nails are quick to grow and (hair is thicker)....and i found Protein is my fuel.....if i am hungry, i eat some protein and i am off and rolling til next time....protein, its a good thing..

Im still between 60-70g of Protein. I find that its easier to not eat the wrong foods when you keep your Protein higher. I guess i feel full longer and no "grazing" occurs.

Best wishes and keep the faith.

Do whatever your surgeon and nutritionist tell you. Every practice is different. It is also important to ask how much liquid you should get in addition to the liquids from Protein.< /p>

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
