I just got bended at 12:30 and have been in tons of pain. I thought I had a pretty high pain tolerance but not with this. It hurts to breath in and I get pains up by my sternum and around my back. Is this normal and how long does it last?

Normal. It took me a couple Weeks to feel better. U r having gas pain, best to walk around your house and take Gas-x. Give yourself time to heal, and follow your Dr instructions. And take your pain meds regularly, don't wait till u r in pain, after a couple days it will subside. Congrats!!! :)

Hi :( I was banded on Friday. Have had 3 c sections, and my gallbladder removed. NOTHING compared to the chest, shoulder, and back and neck pain (gas they tell me) that I have felt. The first couple days were really rough. It's hard reading that people feel great, and are exercising, and are back at work. When I am still having a hard time taking a deep breath. It will get better :) hang in there honey

I had 3 c sections and a gall bladder removal as well and I agree it is much worse. I have been walking and now on stronger pain meds. I hope this helps.

It does get easier everyday. I also thought I had a high tolerance for pain but I dont think that any more. The shoulder pain lasted a long time. I used a heating pad, hot Patches you name it walking etc. It just had to wear off. Good luck to all of you. It is well worth it.

Dr told me first 48hrs the worst and he was right. Every day after that gets better and better.

Walk as much as possible, heating pad and pain meds. Warm Decaf tea also helped me.

I agree with Debbie, take your meds regularly, don't wait for the pain to hit you, it may then be too late to cut it. It will get better, day 3 was my yuck day. Heating pad and meds were my best friend. Get a week under your belt and you will feel so much better. Easier said than done, i know. You will survive and one day when you find yourself running up the steps, or watching people turn their heads to watch you walk in a room..youre going to wonder what all this fuss was all about. This pain will be nothing more than a memory soon. Good luck!

Thanks guys. Feel better today. Still trying to get out that last bit of gas. Its a slow process but from past surgeries I know it will pass. I just miss my bed! Thank God for my recliner but its just not the same. Just another question. I added in full fluids today. Will the Protein that is being added in help with the heeling. I thought. I read that somewhere.

Hi there, glad you're on the mend. I wouldn't say Protein helps with the healing, but it will give you more energy. Right now it's almost one moment at a time, soon it will be a day at a time. I kid you not when I say once you've got a week under your belt you'll feel so much better. And things just keep getting better. Remember to keep yourself hydrated, and try to get some walking in even if it's to the end of your driveway and back. The fresh air will feel good. So, take it easy, rest, walk, sip and take your meds when needed. I was able to use Tylenol about the 3 or 4th day out and put the heavier pain meds away. Patience is what's needed right now, remember Rome wasn't built in a day.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
