Upper monthly back pain

Recommended Posts

I am having severe upper back pain after I eat, and have finally figured out it comes monthly. I had a hysterectomy years ago, but was still having pain in my back when it was that time. But since my lap band surgery about 20 months ago the pain has been getting worse. I also throw up most of what i eat during this time. just wont go down. It is only when I eat. I have had a scope & an ultra sound. Nothing shows up. Has anyone else experienced this? Any solutions? Suggestions?

I would guess that it has to do with horomonal changes. If you still have your ovaries you still have the horomonal fluctuations that would cause a period if you had a uterus. During my cycle I get tight and often times can't eat. I will take a bit and know that I just as well stop there, wait for it to come out and then drink a Protein shake because that is all that will go down. Try talking to a GYN about this. My OB/GYN is very familiar with band life and has studied it in order to better help his band patients.

I am on my cycle now and last night I couldn't eat. Took one bit and I knew it wasn't going down. The PB'ing started and I opted for a shake instead. Sometimes that doesn't even want to go so I end up with coffee the hot liquid seems to help open me up where Fluid and food go down better.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
