Should I go through with the lapband????

Recommended Posts

I have my seminar date coming up. Kinda scared and excited at the same time. Part of me wants to go through with this and then another part of me wants to run and hide from it.

I've had my fair share of health problems and I'm just afraid that alone will keep me from having the surgery. Then there is alsoy insurance. I called my carrier and the lady told me they would cover it if the doctor builds a case on why I need the surgery.... What if my doctor don't think I need it.

Ugh what to do....what to do. Any words or thoughts would be helpful.

Honestly, no one can you tell you what to do. It's a big decision and not one to be entered into lightly. Educate yourself on the facts (actual facts, not anecdotal evidence online). Talk to your doctor and get his opinion. But at the end of the day, only you can make this decision.

Best wishes.

Don't worry about the things you can't control, but take charge of those you can! Do your research! Don't jump into anything your not ready for! Good luck!

I'm at a good point in my life....besides the health and weight issue. I know it mine and my decision alone to make. Its just scary venturing out into unknown parts. Where I live its uncommon for people to do weight loss surgery. Some people do it to look better..... I want to do it to look and feel better. I want to make this decision for me and myself. I have already requested the kit online. There is a seminar this Saturday so hopefully I will have all the info I need and have all my questions answered..... Thank you for your inputs so far.

I was self-pay. it was the best investment in my health I ever made. The lapband saved my life.

If I had to do it over again I would... it a minute. I started with a 54" waist... now 32".

Tom, Toronto

Banded July 6 06

Wt. Loss: 156 lbs

if you are able to get the band surgery (i will keep my finger crossed)

please note its not a miracle cure all....just having the surgery wont make

you at goal weight in a week or two...this is a big misconception...just make your life healthier is what matters. let the band help you eat less food and you just have to do your part by eating better quality foods/exercising and believing in you. if you can do this, you can do anything.

How bad do you want to loose weight and be a normal size person.....how bad do you want to have most, if not all, of your medical situations either reveresed or under control.....how much are you willing to sacrifice to have that?

Once I got my head around that, NOTHING was going to get in my way....and that also included my attitude AFTER I was banded.....

Many people whine about giving up certain foods for good.....complaining about side effects such as getting stuck, regurgitations, simply refuse to let go of their old lige and bad habits..etc......PLEAAAASSE! Would have agreed to bread and Water for 6 months, with the promise i will mot feel hunger, if that is what it took to get my life back....

And I did achieve just that, in one year!

You can be a victim all your life, or you can take charge! It's everyone's choice, and this band is adjustable to match your level of commitment....

Thanks for all the replies. Your words are helpful and kind. I know that if getting the lapband, its not a quick fix. And that's something I want. I don't wanna do something drastic and quick and it ends up hurting me in the long run. I can give up foods....its like I've not tried it already lol.... I guess my biggest fear is going in and getting the band in place. Never did well with anesthesia and it seems like with the last 4 surgeries I've had, there has always been complications and my stays would be longer in the hospital. Maybe I should just shake the feeling off. That's my biggest fear.... The only fear I have right now after I get banded and if I get banded is my body not accepting the new change and rejecting the band.

Lap Band is best thing that I ever did for my self. Don't waste time worrying about things that have not happened yet. Use that energy to plan your foods for post surgery. It will be much better spent that way. Worry means stress, and stress too often means eat for me. Try to avoid over focus on the potential negatives. The positives are so amazing! Best wishes!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
