Dream, dream, dream..........

Recommended Posts

Today is my 6th day post op. I feel great! Feel lighter; feel smaller, clothes are starting to fit loosly. This was the best decision of my life. Can't wait to start moving around outside. A little biking, a little hiking, and just some general outdoor fun.

Now, I would like to discuss some disturbing dreams that I have been having since day 2 post op.

I am not prone to nightmares, dreams are here and there. Sometimes I remember them sometimes I don't. My dreams have changed. I do not dream of being king, a pirate, the most attractive man in the world and I'm dating Jamie Leigh Curtis. (Don't tell my wife).

No. I dream about FOOD! Yes food. Glorious food. Now I'm not saying I dream of rubbing cheeseburgers over my naked body on a stage with a dancing pole. I am, but I digress. I am dreaming of eating my favorite foods and then feeling guilty I did so. These dreams are so vivid I can taste the food, smell the food, and then I beat myself up saying things like.......

"Hey! You’re not supposed to have that! Now you ruined the procedure!" ooooorrrrr

"Hey Dumb@$$, what have you done? Now, how are you gonna lose all that weight idiot? You spent all this money! You got it WWWWWWWRRRRRRROOOOOOONNNNGGGG!

Are these dreams normal or am I nuts? Do any of you have these dreams? Your thoughts. Talk amongst yourselves.

Funny, I had forgotten about the post surgery dreams because its been over 2 1/2 years since I was banded but your post brought it all back. I don't know what the cause of the dreams was, whether it was the lack of food, sugar withdrawal or what, but I most definitely was scared of failure. I think all of us are...

Hang in there. Hopefully once you get back to real food and have some success, the dreams will end.

Just do all the things your doctor tells you and you will do fine!

No, these dreams are not normal and are indicative of a severe psychological disturbance. I suggest you immediately remove all the sharp objects from you house, lock all the doors and windows. Then coat all of the inside walls with industrial grade tin foil.

If after all of that, you still have the dreams, please seek professional help.

Those dreams will turn to nightmares as soon as you experience the consequences of actually eating those things....you will learn to run from them.

Yes all normal. I had dreams of steak and mashed potatos during the pre-op liquid phase. It's your brain letting go of the emotional connection to food. This same thing happened when I quit smoking too.

Your posts make me laugh! Glad your doing well!

I think it's safe to say that you are hyperfocused. It's a good thing...and it's obviously in overdrive. I just love how your brain tortures you into submission. I think they call this psychosis gettingthindontwanttobefatagainphrenzia, I know a mouthful.

You know...I had dreams of food as well the first few days out of surgery but was too afraid to post anything here. (I thought the LBT police would take me away!) My dreams are that I am in situations in which I need to make decisions about family get togethers with the comfort foods that are often found at BBQ's or holiday gatherings. Seeing as no one in my family knows I have had surgery it is difficult to explain why I don't want to eat anything in my dreams. So everyone piles up my plate real high and I want to run. I end of waking up feeling grateful it was only a dream. My dream will become a reality when the warmer weather hits but by then I will be down some pounds and the craving to have those "dream" items will be replaced with other new foods that help and not hinder my life.

Many report dreaming about food during the initial periods of weight loss. It is a way for the body to mourn it's old friend food! I don't think you are at all crazy or psychotic.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
