For Curiousity Sake...

Recommended Posts

I actually ask this question as a reply to one of the post but I am really curious. Does the weight come back when they do a complete unfill or if they have to do a replacement band? Is this true even if you stay with the program, 1/2-1 cup per meal???

If you stick to band sized portions and stay within your daily calories, you will continue to lose weight despite having a band unfilled or replaced.

Remember, the band has nothing to do with weight loss. The band controls your hunger, your weight loss is 100% dependent on how many calories you consume versus the amount you burn.

I had to have my band totally unfilled in August for an emergency surgery (not band related). I wasn't back in the Green Zone again until October but I still lost weight even though my band was empty.

OK thanks Missy...I was just wondering since I have read a lot of post about gaining weight after complete unfill.

It's easy to gain weight when suddenly unfilled because the hunger comes back with a vengeance. I know I was STARVING hungry constantly when I had my total unfill. But, I was determined to not gain and keep losing so I just sort of toughed through it.

Thanks for asking/answering this, I was always curious about this as well and that makes sense that the hunger would come back strongly.

I depend upon the band to take away ALL my hunger and cravings, mentally, and to control my portion sizes which I happy to say it does........I don't count calories, have not for over 2 years now...... just make wise food choices with what little I am able to eat....

I am unable to stick with any plan and eat a measured amount of food....I need the band to do that for me.....and it does....

If I were to get a un-fill, it would all be a disaster for me....I depend upon the band for everything....that's why I had the surgery in the first place, was unable to loose weight without it no matter what diet I tried....

Mosts posts you read about people "Failing" and gaining their weight back can usually be linked to some medical issue where they needed a un-fill or band revision....OR they never where in the Green Zone in the first place and depended upon their own selves and discipline for the weight loss....

But with the bands adjusted as it is...it would be IMPOSSIBLE for me to gain any weight back...I know, I have put it to the test and it was a no-go...could not over eat....

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
