Surgery Thursday, liquid diet and cold feet.

Recommended Posts

After previously complaining about my liquid diet requirement, I had my pre op appt. and learned that I lost 15 pounds in two weeks. That seems like a lot to me, and I can't imagine its good for me..but that is that.

Today I had the brilliant idea that I no longer want to do the surgery because of how much I love food. I don't care that I am fat...I like to eat..eating is awesome, food is awesome, I don't care aaaaggghhh.

Dudes... I'm totally getting scared. Not scared of going under or pain or unknowns of that nature, but I'm freaked out about not being able to eat. I think I'm misunderstanding what is going to happen. Once I am healed I will be eating Real Food, right? Like majorly chewed up portions of (about a cup I think) of food at a time, several times per day. I will eat chicken and zucchini and yogurt and things that I like that are healthy for me..RIGHT?? I will learn HOW to eat, what to eat, how much to chew. This will become the new normal and my life will go on and I will drop weight and become more healthy and energetic and get to live longer on the planet with my children....RIGHT?

All of a sudden I have lost tough with all the stuff I know, or understood about this whole thing. It started to seem extreme and like a cop out. JUST DON"T EAT AS MUCH< JUST EXERCISE. I'm here at this place, because that didn't work for me.

Ok...venting. I'm feeling guilty about what potentially negative impacts this will have on my family post op... Not being able to lift my kids etc... that's bumming me out. We co sleep and I won't be able to do that because of them potentially kicking me etc.

Reading instructions from my doctor to take tablespoon sips of Water.... that is FREAKING ME OUT. How the hell are you supposed to get enough Water into your body that way?

Ok..breathing. I know it will be fine. I am adaptable and smart and have a lot of support. It just wouldn't be normal if I weren't freaking out a little..right? RIGHT?

Ok. thanks bye.

Deep breaths, deep breaths.

Now:

1. Which is better for you? Loosing the 15 pounds in 2 weeks, or keeping 15 pounds of fat on you for the rest of your life?

2. Don't eat as much, exercise: If you could do it, you wouldn't be fat would you?

3. Which is more negative for your family? You a normal weight or you dead from the diseases that accompany being morbidly obese for the rest of your shortened life.

You are 6 inches shorter than I am, and started out 15 pounds heavier. I know what how my fat has affected me, 2 artificial knees, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc. I can only imagine what it must be like for you.

I am two months on the other side of surgery, if I didn't lose another pound THE SURGERY WAS WORTH THE QUALITY OF LIFE THAT I NOW HAVE!. But I am going to lose more, and it is going to get better.

Question is, do you want to stay where you are now, or do you want to join the other bandsters in a better life?

You seem to have alot of regrets about getting it? It is lifestyle change. I've had mine a while and it has ended up failing me and causing me not to eat.. Will have it removed on Friday.

Yup, it is a lifestyle change. ANYTHING THAT CAUSES YOU TO STOP BEING FAT IS A LIFESTYLE CHANGE OR YOU WOULD STAY FAT!

It is normal to have cold feet before surgery. Read Terry's post and really digest it. Yes you can eat real food again (just in small portion). Yes, you wont be able to lift your kids (for a few weeks), it is temporary. You can sit on the couch and have your kids on your lap.....still doing mommy kid bonding. You can still sleep with your kid/s. If you are worried about your kid kicking you in the tummy....put a pillow in between. Now everything is all up to you. Do you want to live healthy and be able to play with your kid without getting out of breath easily or do you just want to see your kid play alone while you watch???

Lionbird,

Your post sounds like the rationalization of an addict. The health benefits greatly outweigh these things. Besides who will take care of your kids if you end up with heart disease and take a turn for the worse?

Didn't want to sound harsh but that's the way I see it.

I panicked before surgery too. Everything will fall into place. I too LOVE food and now I just enjoy it in smaller portions. I also co sleep with a very active 4 year old and never had an issue. Like everyone said....breathe!! You will do fine! :-)

I know this Terry but some people don't realize that it's not just an easy fix... It's permanent. Gez!

I still 50% cosleep with my son.. and he's an acrobat under the sheets.. He wouldnt sleep the whole night without me.. so we improvised... PILLOWS!!... i went to sleep with a pillow on my tummy.. and slid further down the bed so he was slightly above me so he couldnt possibley sufficate or i couldnt smother him by accident.

Food! after band life... if you stick with your allowed portions, calories, and fats.. then you will be able to eat the foods you love BUT have a healthy loving relationship with.

Its better that u have these doubts now because its only going to make you that much more mentally stronger through your journey.

Use your kids for motivation.

My father passed away from a heart attack from being over weight at 53... He missed my wedding, my sister graduating college, and his grand child.

think about the realities you may face if you fail at "doing on your own"... even the ones less pleasant.

Did you tell them you had the cold or did they figure it out?

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
