Is to wrong to force yourself to vomit?

Recommended Posts

When food sticks, I generally spend 20-30 minutes going through a series of "heaves" before I actually vomit. The heaves generally include the "slime" that is trying to force the food down but there is no food in it. (sorry for the details!) After I am finally able to vomit the food up, I am exhausted both physically and emotionally. Is it wrong, and would it even work, to force myself to vomit closer to when the series begins rather than waiting it out? I recognize that this is a sign of an eating disorder (which I obviously do not have since I was banded to lose) but do not feel that I would be forcing the issue to lose weight but would be forcing the issue to cause myself less trauma. Please be kind....this has happened twice in the last two days. I'm tired and simply looking for help. I have added the 2 foods to my list of "don't eats".

Yes, in fact vomiting is one of the worst things you can do with the band. By making yourself vomit you're putting yourself at high risk for a slip.

Talk to your doctor, either you're eating too big of a bite and too fast or your band is too tight. Either way, let your doctor help you resolve the situation. You don't want to wind up with a slip.

I've vomited several times, especially in the last week after a fill. I'm trying to readjust my bite size. But if that doesn't work I'm in to get an unfill.

Coming from someone who vomited for the first 2 yrs and whos band slipped last year - AVOID VOMITING AT ALL COSTS! I'd do the same thing, except had no trouble at all getting the food up. I'd vomit about 50% of my meals, including in restaurants (do you know how many times I've heard "are you ok?" coming from another stall?). I just can't seem to slow down my eating. Since my slip, I've learned to slow it down and ride thru the stuck episodes. Not to say I'm perfect (when I start sweating and my mouth starts to Water, there'd better be a toilet or a bush nearby), but it's always my own fault so I have no one to blame but myself.

I'd advise you to learn how to eat like a bandster. You definately don't want a slip. It's hard to come back from (I'm still sufferring with mine). Good luck!

I never really vomited till this last fill. I was afraid it was too tight. I'm trying to really concentrate on bite size now. Never had to before this last fill. I am trying solids again today for first time. First sign of sticking and I go back for an unfill.

Vomiting is flirting with disaster in my opinion. You may get away with it for a long time, or it may just take once to slip your band. I have vomited and believe me I was very worried and now do whatever it takes to avoid those situations

I am terrified of it. However after my last fill I didn't have any say in the matter. No matter how small the bite it was coming back up. Called doc cause I figured band might have been too tight. Now on a restart. Trying solid today again. Wishing for the best. If stick again, in for an unfill tomorrow.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
