Is four weeks too soon for a second fill?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I had my first fill on April 5th (two and a half weeks ago) and I have a tiny bit of restriction (PB'd once and gotten stuck a few times) but mostly I can eat at near pre-band levels most meals. I have lost a little bit since that fill (about two pounds) but feel I can eat way too much. For example, last night I ate an egg roll, a bowl of hot and sour Soup, and about a cup and a half of Hunan chicken and rice. That's about what I would have eaten pre-band. So I scheduled another fill appointment for May 3rd, which would be four weeks since my previous fill. Is four weeks in between too soon? Also, I will be traveling for the weekend two days later and am scared about being far away from my doc in case the fill is too tight or something. What do you guys think?

Well, I had my first fill April 7th and am going back next week for a 2nd... so 3 weeks between fills.

When I had my first fill he gave me less than he might normally (1cc in 4cc band, which he called a "tiny" fill), because I was still not eating a lot and he didn't want to cut that back even more.

He told me to call the RN and talk to her if I think I'd ready for another. I talked to her today, and explained that esp. in the last week or so the small portions is a matter of will power, not band intervention. She said it was time for another fill & scheduled me.

I'd been told from other patients with my surgeon that he's pretty agressive with his fills, as in not taking months & months to get you to the point of restriction (not as in giving you a ton of fill all at once).

I asked how much she thought he would give me and she said she would draw 2ccs, but how much I actually got depended on the resistance he felt when pushing the fill in, so we'll see how much he adds to the 1cc I have now.

I had my first fill at the end of March. I went back to my surgeon 3 1/2 weeks later for a f/u visit with every intention of getting another fill. I had 1.1 cc's put in at first. I haven't felt much restriction, just sometimes and I PB'd once. I told the doctor that I PB'd once and that I felt the "golf ball" about 2x per week. He told me to hold off for another month because he didn't want me to be too filled to get anything down. He has been happy with my weight loss. So.... I took his advice and will wait until next month. I have just heard nightmare stories about bandsters being overfilled. Just watch what you eat and try to stick to low carbs and high Protein. Good luck!!

Not at all in my opinion. I went back 3 times in a 3.5 week span until I felt like I had decent restriction. I had NO desire to wait around and still eat like I used to. Some folks are more cautious though... but NOT ME!! :grouphug::):(

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
