In the name of Captain Kirk

Recommended Posts

So, last night I had my first cream Soup. Broccoli cheese, 1 cup, 320 cal., puréed it to get the lumps out and ate within 30 minutes. ( really it was 7 but who's counting)

Anyway, had some discomfort before going to bed. No big deal. Woke up this am excited to have a skim plus Protein Shake. Again, 8 oz of milk and 1 tbsp of Greek yogurt to thicken it up. Drank slowly, and was having discomfort through the day.

So I said to myself, self, you may want to read over that material you got at the post op class. So I did. Only to find out that I was to work up to 4 oz for each of my meals.

IN THE NAME OF CAPTAIN KIRK WHAT THE HELL HAVE I DONE? Have I just screwed this whole thing up? The discomfort goes away, but did I stretch out the pouch? Have I done damage to the band? HELP, .........RED ALERT..........RED ALERT.........RED ALERT! Shields up phasers on stun!

Better nursing judgement says, no vomit, ok. Means no back up. So far so good. Am I over reacting? watch my Fluid intake? Call the MD on Monday.

Never mind, we have to set the clocks forward this weekend. The stressor it all.

Thoughts and comments.

I think you will be fine since you caught your mistake right away. Still call the doctor. My doctor has someone on call 24/7 if there is a problem, does yours? To make my shakes thick, I use ice cubes and use a blender. I love them and have one every morning for Breakfast. I hate breakfast foods.

Dear man, you once again almost made me nurf laughing.

Ok onto serious stuff- you're fine. I promise. liquids go right through the band so unless you were chugging cream of broccoli Soup via a beer bong, your pouch is fine and not stretched. Your band is fine, too.

Btw, kudo for dragging out your reading material for a reference!

I don't think I was told to only have 4 ounces at a time. I mixed up my shake and had the whole thing, though I think it did take about an hour to get down since I would freeze them.

You guys are killing me with laughter! I was told 2-4 oz 4-6 times a day until I worked up 4 weeks after surgery. But I'm sure you are ok. Just ease back. It's not like you ate solids. Just go with your instructions now since you caught it.

I just looked at my post-op diet instructions for days 6-10, sliders/full liquids 3 meals a day at 4-8oz each. Also states to take extra time to evaluate if a new food is tolerable.

BTW, I like your style. You are a very funny person!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
