One of my favorite foods is almonds. I buy inexpensive roasted no salt almonds. I put about 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large fry pan and then add the almonds and roast them on med-high heat for about 10-15 minutes. I stir them around. I keep them in plastic ware in the refrigerator. Today I decided to add about

2 tablespoons of Splenda brown sugar. They taste awesome.

I love almonds! Have you tried the blue diamond flavors? I'm eating bbq habanero right now, very awesome :), and they have a lot of other really good flavors like lime chili and mint dark chocolate. Love them all! I like your suggestion, I'll have to try that too.

I can not be trusted with dark chocolate covered almonds. I just can't stop eating them. I always bought them from Trader Joe's. My surgeon told me almonds are very high in calories and to control my intake. Thank you for the suggestion.

I have to portion and then eat them, with the bag I either lose count of what I have put in my mouth, or start miscounting, like was that 16 or did I just eat 14? lol, :)

The problem I have with almonds is:

1 is too many and a 1000 is not enough, but that's just me. :D :D

I buy them and eat them as a snack on my drive home if Im hungry at 4 and don't want to be starving by my late dinner time (or cranky). It works out well. It takes a while to chew one almond, and with almonds I notice soft full sign and will stop before I finish my handful or if I feel soft time. I usually take about 12 from a huge bag (and don't go in for more) I keep in the car but I just made up that number, and always wonder how many is a good portion size, or the max portion size. Not oz wise, but amount of almonds. What do you think?

I actually just started buying the Blue Diamond honey roasted almonds and love them! Sometimes I just need a few. 40 calories isn't too bad for 7. I usually bag them up in servings of 14 nuts.

I am so happy to read that you all eat almonds. I was concerned I would have to give them up along with other nuts. Anyone have issues with digesting nuts? What about almond butter instead of Peanut Butter?

Never had it. I do eat natural chunky peanut butter with no salt. I live in the Boston area and near by is a company, Teddie's, and they make great peanut butter.

No to eat like that. But many years ago I have bought raw almonds and cashews for recipes where I would stir fry them. Are they good or do you cook them?

Oh, don't get me started with almond butter :), that is something I cannot control myself on, I really love it and eat a little too much, so I only get the whole almonds that I can control. And for the question on portion size, I have seen on different bags anywhere from 1/4 cup, 24 nuts, and 28 nuts, but I weigh out 1 oz on a scale as the size of the almonds can differ.

Nuts of any kind are a real weakness for me, they are kinda like potato chips were to the old love so I have to be very careful with them Your recipe sounds yummy.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
