No hunger pains, but really want food

Recommended Posts

Just had my surgery on 3/06/13. It went well and I feel good, but I'm a little afraid to eat. I'm afraid of the gas pains I keep reading about, I'm afraid of not losing weight and this whole thing being a disaster. I don't regret it, I'm just scared that I'll never be able to eat again. Did anyone else feel like that?

Ask my husband, I was a basket case. I felt like as soon as I started eating again everything I had lost would come right back. I was starving 5 days or so out and I was evil. I was scared to eat, even though I had been cleared to have mushies. I layed in my husband lap and cried, so scared that I was going to fail. My husband kept telling me that if I gave up I would fail, but just follow the directions the doctor gave me and that was all I could do.

I have been banded almost 9 months. Total weight lost 52 lbs (currently at 192). I haven't really gained even through the holidays. I weight daily and I will bounce for a week or 4 weeks within a 4 lbs range and then drop, then bounce, then drop. My doctor says this is normal. Yeah, I wish I was losing more and quicker, but I'm not, but I am losing and the inchs are coming off. Rather than wearing a 20 pant, I wear 14's. Rather than a 1 or 2X shirt I am in large. So I guess it did work.

like mis said, follow the dr's rules/instruction and you will do fine....PS, you will eat again and you will enjoy food instead of inhaling it in case the food monster comes and gets it from your plate...

I so agree. I love eating and cooking. I love having control. Don't be scared be excited! Take it each day at a time. One meal at time and always follow your doctor's guidelines before listening to anyone else!

Don't be afraid to eat (all the right foods). I too just got banded in February and I was scared to eat and I had no appetite. I was drinking so much tea until I was sick of it. I was cranky, did not have hunger pains but just drank tea. However, it's only been 2-3 weeks and I think I started eating to soon now my cravings are coming back. I wish u well.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
