Is this normal?

Recommended Posts

Hi, all!

Three days out and feeling pretty good--thanks to my Lortab Syrup. :Banane56: I haven't eaten anything of consequence in six days (just Clear liquids with little calories), and I feel ok, but I'm a little upset about weight. Day of surgery, I weighed 260.5. Now, I weigh 268. I'm sure it's from all the swelling and IV fluids, etc., but it sure sucks to not have any calories for six days, and then gain 7.5lbs. Did this happen to you?

WHEN DOES THE SWELLING GO DOWN AND THE WEIGHT LOSS BECOME APPARENT?

Well, anyway, onward I go, not giving up EVER. I'm done being obese.

Hope everyone is well, and for those who've yet to be banded, hang in there. This is the greatest thing you will do for yourself.

Love to all--

Congrats Dana, you are normal! Keep hydrated, the Water weight will fall off in no time. Stay off the scale. You are healing right now. Concern yourself with hydration and a bit of nutrition. I know it's hard not to step on the scale, but give it a shot. Or at least don't let the reading rule the day. Rest, sip, and walk!

Dana, keep in mind too that the surgery itself doesn't really help most people with weight loss. It's the fills afterward that do the most work. There are some people who are restricted with just the band, but most people aren't.

Now is for healing, later is for losing. :(

Oh, I know--but if I weighed 260.5 on the morning of surery and in the mean time have had nothing but Clear Liquids and then weighed in four days later at 268--something's not right--other than this being Water weight.

In other words, I have not gained 7.5 pounds of fat on clear liquids. There's no way, right? If anything, I should have lost some. Time will tell, I'm sure.

Dana, I gained 11lbs of Water weight from surgery. It came right off over the first few weeks. Hang in there - I know we're not allowed to want weight loss right away (lol) but it's hard to wrap the head around that and not be disappointed.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
