How many carbs should be consumed in one day

Recommended Posts

Today I am 2 weeks post op. preop start weight was 275lbs. Surgery day 260lbs. Today I am 248lbs. Total loss of 27 lbs. I am very confused though. Should I be eating 3 small meals and three small Snacks or just three meals. My life style permits just 3 meals. Also I have not been given proper instructions by my nut. I know that upto 60 grams of Protein per day. But what should be the max carb intake. What about sodium. What about sugars. Calories I know is also between 1000 to 1200. I am also not a Water drinker but try to at least have a liter a day. Please advice. Thanks

You're going to get all different responses. To be certain what is right for you you'll need to ask your nutritionist.

I personally don't count carbs. I eat a minimum 60g of Protein and 1000-1200 calories a day. I also don't let fat make up more than 25% of my daily calories.

For me it works, but there is no right or wrong amount. Everyone is different

It depends on your body.. "Bad" Carbs drag me down and stick to me like glue.. So I stick to a lower carb diet and the carbs I do consume are unprocessed natural carbs aka "good carbs" and I don't really monitor them.

Hey Mis I didnt know you dont count calories! Me too and I love not getting lost in the numbers. Works great for me. I dont count carbs either but I try to make healthy choices. I do believe for many reasons people should watch sodium and drink a lot of Water. Cutting out processed foods is one big way to cut down.

congrats on the weight loss

keep drinking the liquid (helps you stay full and combats head hunger). i am a lover of peach ice tea by crystal light......be lost without it..

eating, like mis said, depends on whom you ask. if you eat, focus on Protein first (that is your fuel) and veggies and some fruit....good food and not (processed/high sodium)....if you understand that 3500 cals is a pound whether its ate or drank and to not take in more calories than you burn off, you will lose weight (and the band helps us eat less) isnt that a great lifestyle now that we have??

i eat when i am (truly hungry). if i think i am hungry, i drink first (to determine if i am head hungering)......i think like a baby....babies eat when hungry and turn their head away when they are done.....me too (too bad i didnt do this when i got over 300+ pounds..

At two weeks post op you are still healing, don't worry about the rules that you will follow in a month or so as much yet. Besides everyone one of us are different. I still can't eat a cup, and to get the proper amount of calories in, my NUT told me to do 4 - 1/2 cup meals a day, as well as a couple of Snacks. I count calories and my target is 1300-1400 a day.

I follow the 30/30/30 plan for 1200 calories:

30% calories from Protein, 360 calories = 90 gr Protein

30% calories from good carbs*360 calories = 90 gr carb

30% calories from good fats**360 calories= 40 gr fats

10% calories for whatever I want...120 calories

* good carbs, veggies, low glycemic fruits (berries & melons) whole grains

** good fats, avocado, olive oils and naturally occurring fats in foods and grains.

You can see that you can adjust your calories downward and still meet your nutritional needs. For a 60 gr protein plan the total calories per day would be 800.

I've actually seriously considered trying this. It seems a lot more balanced, especially when if you're sticking to good carbs and staying away from saturated fats.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
