Gaining back 16 months after? Anyone having similar problems

Recommended Posts

I was banded September 2011 at NYU. The result was better than I could expect - 135 lbs off . Never followed rules strictly, but was still loosing. Not any more. Last month with no change in my eating habits I started gaining back, and it goes fast - like 10 lbs a month!! Anyone having similar problems? My restriction nis still pretty good. Do not see any difference. SOS

If you never really followed the rules then it would make sense that you're gaining. Weight loss is really basic math, if you burn more calories than you consume you lose. I would be willing to bet your calories have slowly crept up and now the weight is catching up with you again.

I would start tracking your calories to see how much you're actually consuming. This way you will know for certain where you need to make changes.

Best wishes!

Track your food and track your calories.. Use your resources at NYU. Call your nutritionist get some food counseling. Go to the monthly support group.. FOLLOW the RULES!

Just as you loose weight a little faster the heavier you are, I assume it's easier to gain the smaller you are, just by Murphy's law. Sounds like you know what needs to happen since you admit to not following the rules, you can get back on track, stay positive, and turn it back around =)

I am two and half years out and I have followed the rules and changed my eating habits. I have not gained any of my weight back and I have been at my goal weight for over 6 months. I do weigh myself every morning. I have a 5lb weight range I allow myself, I still weigh and measure my food and I still record my food on MFP daily. I may not be perfect with eveything I eat but I am honest with myself and count every healthy and unhealthy bite I place on my plate. Gaining weight back is a real possiblity with lapband just like with any WLS if you do not change your behaviors. The old saying you are what you eat is very true. Refocus and do not allow your self to go back to the old way of thinking, good luck.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
