How did you make it through stage 1?

Recommended Posts

I am 1 week post op tomorrow and I am struggling with head hunger..so bored with Jello and Soup. Anyone else having this problem and what helps? I got one more week of this and don't know how I am gonna make it. Any tips?

I was on stage 1 (liquids) for 4 weeks. It was awful!

I wish I had some great advice but really you just have to rough through it. Protein shakes helped to appease the hunger. Blending cottage cheese into cream Soup adds extra Protein thus helps appease the hunger, too. I also discovered V8 makes some great fruit and veggie juice blends and they come in a light version.

Hang in there, just remember you're on the post op diet to heal. You can do it.

Thanks for the tips. I never thought of blending cottage cheese. I will try that. I can honestly say I am not hungry..just missing whole foods.

I can sympathize. I've been making sure I always have a big glass of Water next to me and I've been working on a massive to do list of personal projects. I find it's important to keep both mind and fingers engaged so I've also been playing puzzle video games and writing also.

I will admit yesterday I did take a bite of pizza and spit it back out just so I could get some variety on my taste buds. I tried some of the baby food options and I'll admit I'm not really jiving on them but I did enjoy the gerber spaghetti with sauce which I thinned even further by adding regular spaghetti sauce.

sugar free popsicles are also a nice change of pace.

I wish I knew what would help. I think we need a veterans opinion....missy or floridays??? Are you measuring what goes in? I wish I could help more.

As long as you're having bowel movements I wouldn't worry. If you haven't yet; then you might want to talk to your Nutritionist or doctor. It might be as simple as adding some prune juice or taking a laxative.

If you are still taking pain meds, stop. Pain meds can cause your digestive system to shut down so that any fluids you take just sit and fill up your stomach.

On day 11 I ate chicken and rice healthy choice soup! I couldn't take it no more, I called Dr. Today to admit my sin, and he ask if I threw it up? And I said no because its the truth I didn't and he said I was fine??? I guess people heal different

jOne more week of post op liquids. I don't crave any certain foods, but just want to be able to stab my food with a fork. Got some of the Soups from the doctor's office and that has helped. Support groups are good too. Don't cheat and keep up the good work.

I am having this same problem. I am one week out today and I want something I can eat! My doctor's Stage 1 diet is broth, Jello, pudding and Popsicles. Along with 3 Protein Shakes a day. I have HAD IT with these things. I can't have creamy Soups, soups with noodles, mushy veggies or anything of the sort for another week.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
