Any bandings in April???

Recommended Posts

I was BANDED at around 11 a.m. today!!! Yay!! I feel really good except the "dreaded gas pain" I have it in my shoulder and neck. Other than that all is well. I'm drinking Water just like I always did. I guess with liquids there is no difference? Fine with me. Anyway, Thank you ALL for your prayers and best wishes!!

I was put on a 2 week liquid diet? You only had to do the liquid diet for 3 days?

Yes thank God! I've heard everyone say they had 10 days of liquid but my diet is two weeks with a Protein Shake for Breakfast, half a Protein shake for lunch with 2-4 oz of lean meat and 1 cup raw or 1/2 cup cooked veggies and same for dinner. Then the last 3 days of those 2 weeks is liquid only. So I'm super thankful for that! Good luck on your diet I know it's hard but we will get through it and be so much happier in the end :)

My "liquid" diet is going ok. I drink 2 Protein Shakes a day and a small meal…not too bad, but it is a pain..I still have to cook for the family and that is hard.

I was banded yesterday and am home now. Everything went well. Just have a little soreness and a little gas. Holding a pillow over my stomach really helps. Walking also helps. Very excited to start my new journey.

Hello!

I am new to the forum. My surgery date is April 24th. I just completed day 4 of my pre-op shake diet. I'm married with 3 children and it's really hard cooking for my family and then walking away from the table without eating anything (I'm keeping in mind the end result and that helps). The only person who knows about my surgery is my husband. Did anyone else stay quiet about the surgery?

Welcome to the forum Miki. I'm a father and also do a lot of cooking for my family. Yes, it is hard but don't give into temptation. Continue with the shakes. Gotta have two per day after surgery too so it's just a part of life now. About being quiet, YES. Yes I stayed quiet about it. Even told my wife NOT to talk about it to friends and family members. I didnt want any of them to know about it. I guess I was kinda embarrassed about it. I kinda felt like a fat ass loser for having surgery instead of doing it the "old fashioned" way like I've done so many times before. Funny thing though- towards the end of my pre-op diet, I talked about it to my mother in law. My wife looked at me kinda crazy cuz I had been adamant about not talking about it to family. I don't know what changed or how it changed- maybe it was the fear of the surgery, maybe it was a sense of accomplishment for my newfound willpower sticking to the Protein Shakes. When my wife called me out for mentioning it to my mother in law, I changed my mind about talking about it. Now I'm 1 week post op and still a little hesitant to talk about it to everyone, but fact is, I've lost 30 pounds. So when people say "are you losing weight?" Or they ask "where were you last Friday? I've never seen you miss work?" I just simply tell them that I had lap band surgery. I can't and shouldn't lie about it. It's the truth. And although I was embarrassed about my decision and wanted it to stay private at first, my results and newfound willpower drive me enough to feel proud about the decision I've made to do this

I am day six post-op (banded 4/8). Feeling MUCH BETTER! I feel about 80% back to normal. I go see my surgeon tomorrow to have my sutures out and I can start soft proteins!! Though I have had no hunger, I am SICK AND TIRED of choking down three Protein shakes/day. Hoping I can cut back to 1.5 or so. Itching to get back to the gym, even if i can't do weights. Since surgery i have lost 10lbs. Though I know partial Water weight 219.8 this am feels WONDERFUL!!! It's been YEARS! I am ready to take charge of my life and enjoy spring!

I was banded 4/4, so 10 days post op. I have lost 10lbs, but seemed to have stalled even though I am not doing anything different.

I'm so scared to move to the mushy part of the diet, because I've done so well with the shakes.

Has anyone else felt this way?

Stay on the Protein Shakes as long as you like. It's good for muscle maintenance and they're nutritious. So far This weekend I ate more mushy food than Protein shakes and I feel like I'm not getting enough protein that way. I'm going to end up losing a lot of my muscle mass if I eat too much food without getting in enough protein shakes. Good luck!

Hi! Thanks for your response, you more or less summed up the way I've felt for the past 10 years... like a fat ass failure because no matter how much weight I lost I would eventually gain it back + more. Also, I am not sure if I am ready to hear people's opinions about lap band surgery just yet.

I am happy to hear that you are doing well, wow 30lbs list is amazing! My surgery is on a Wednesday, do you think I'll feel okay to go to my daughter's dance recital on Saturday? I have no idea how much pain to expect to be in post-op. I know that everyone is different but I just want to have an idea if I should start forewarning her that I may not be attending.

I had surgery on a Friday morning and went back to work Tuesday morning. So I had 3 1/2 days to recover. I was just fine to go to work on Monday. However, upon being on my feet all day from Tuesday and Friday, and lifting objects and putting things away, I was quite tired and sore those days. I'll bet you're gonna be okay. Hang in there. You're gonna be amazed the differences this next will make. You're gonna have a big smile on your face on May 14!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
