After thought - Why can't we just give everyone the room to be responsible adults and accept the fact that there will be some who aren't very good at that? This policing of our individuality is annoying. If there are folks who tend to wipe out threads, then don't post important things on their threads. Or go start one of you own that wont be deleted by anyone else. This seems like overreaction to a once in a while problem if you ask me. Do the moderators really need to be babysitters here? For crying out loud. No offense, Alexandra. I just don't see why the actions of one justify the punishment of all.

Ditto, Susan.

Ok, not editing after 24 hours poses a big problem for ANY threads that need the first post edited regularly. Mary and I are hosting a Houston pot-luck, and I need to be able to edit the first post when people sign up for a certain dish. I don't want to have to scroll through posts saying "I won't be there," "Oh wait, yes I will," "I'll bring salad," "No, wait, I'll bring potatoes" to decipher what is going to actually happen.

If we really need to be treated like children, take away the delete, but don't take away the edit. By taking away the edit, you are just making our threads messy and unreadable.

OK, I'm officially jumping on the pissed bandwagon. My Houston potluck thread is going to get impossible to read if I can't edit the first post.

Did I mention how messy my thread will get if I can't edit the first post?

Paula, I'm curious as to why you think there should be a distinction among the forums with regard to this issue. What's the difference?

Threads that are created in the Lounge -usually- have NOTHING to do with Lap Banding. I like the freedom of having Lounge conversations/opinions and deleteing it after the thread had met my need. Whether its a day or a week later.

The threads started in those places (mainly the Lounge) have no educational purpose for this forum.

So why not allow things to remain the same in at least this section of LBT?

Basically Im with Kathy - I also like things the way they were. :nervous

This has never been a problem in the past. :Banane56:

Ladies, I agree that we need to bring back the editability of posts. I AGREE, OK??? :Banane56:

Please don't get pissed; the owner just made this change temporarily until we have come to an agreement on future policy. Patience is a good thing. Thanks!

I see your point, but I really don't think any useful purpose is served by allowing members the freedom to delete threads at will. Paula, you may be the only person to use the Lounge in that way, and I'm sure there are other ways to get opinions. If there is information on the board you are not comfortable with staying visible indefinitely, perhaps you shouldn't post it in the first place.

It hasn't been a problem in the past because no one has ever deleted threads on such a scale before. It takes something like this to really make us think it all through. The site is growing and we want easily understood rules and policies that will give everyone a comfortable place to post, and that require a minimum of moderator involvement.

If there are folks who tend to wipe out threads, then don't post important things on their threads. Or go start one of you own that wont be deleted by anyone else.

It's about atmosphere. LBT wants everyone to feel that all threads belong to all of us and to post freely. Encouraging that idea of "ownership" seems to me to be very detrimental to that sense of community.

Hey Susan,

I have to politely dissaggree....how is any one to know which folks are delete happy or not? And some people have no history of deleting stuff and then all the sudden up and delete. There is no way any one can really know who likes to delete stuff and who doesn't

Yeah, Kat, I see your point on that. I don't know. I just hate losing freedom to make my own choices because of one or two people who do something that we don't like. As Alex said, this hasn't been a problem before and perhaps just talking about it and making everyone realize that they take away a lot more than their own posts when they delete a thread is enough. I never misused the delte option nor have 99% of the people here. But becuase of one or two who have, we all must be put on some sort of restriction. That just doesn't seem right to me.

Photo, don't see it as "some sort of restriction." As has been mentioned before, MOST message boards don't allow any thread deletion by users. We've just learned why that is, I guess.

Yes, it has. It has happened on a much larger scale than anything I have seen in the past week. Noone got their panties in a wad before. Well, I did, but I got over it. The ownership idea (which is a good thing, IMO) took over for me and I took it on the chin like a big girl.

The "problematic reactionary response" has NOT been that folks are mad because some people delete threads. The "problematic reactionary response" has been the interference with the board functions.

Yeah, I don't like it when folks delete threads. The way it is now (or should I say was?) if there was something so important on a deleted thread I COULD ask a mod to retrieve it. By consensus with other mods, it could be retrieved and PM'd to me. Or e-mailed, whatever. If it isn't a legitimate request, the mod could say "nope, not ethical" and it's gone.

I doubt this happens often enough that mods are working overtime digging through archives finding stuff for folks. Fact is, now that all those old posts and threads from last year and before are gone, noone misses them. Except maybe the folks who deleted them. See? We got over it. Life went on here on LBT. It's fine. It's really okay to delete stuff.

I stand behind my proprietary ideology regarding posts and threads. I don't think that creates an unsafe board atmosphere.

Okay, Alexandra, you have been a gem and put lots of time and effort and thought into this. I thank you for considering all our opinions. And I know this current change is temporary. I can't wait to have everything back to where is was, which is where it should be! :Banane56:

I understand how most of ya are feeling. And I understand why most of you like to have the security of the delete option there. But honestly this is the first forum I have ever been on that actually allowed deleting from users. Every where else I have been only moderators and admin can delete entire threads. (users can delete their own posts, but not entire threads) So for me this wouldn't be a big change.

But I think we should be happy.... I got banned on another weight loss forum for posting the website to the European Banding Board (the group that regulates lap banding in Europe) They told me it was advertising, I told them it was informative, and the refused to budge. So I REALLY appreciate all the freedoms we are allowed here on LBT. For me, it's a privilege to be able to post here...and I'll take whatever they give us.

I would agree with Susan and Kat here BUT someone might be in a pissy mood and take it the wrong way...oh wait this is the lounge I can say what I want IF I want my toes stepped on.

so I won't say I agree with anyone on this issue - just an innocent bystander passing the popcorn to the onlookers lol

oh dang! I posted in the wrong section I can't delete or edit now can i? :rolleyes

dang it. mod help me here :guess

XXX edit edit edit XXX or just delete it and put it in the proper "lounge" place - IM such a newb

LBT is different. And better. This is why folks like it here.

And just because other boards are doing it...(insert a grandmother's voice here, add a wagging finger, and complete the thought...)

How other boards do it isn't a right reason to me. Even if this is why they do it. Nope, still not convinced.

I'm rarely in a pissy mood. *laughs* That's why I found it so shocking when some people took my posts in that tone (in the past). I'm more like a happy puppy with floppy ears, always ready to have a good time - then feed me and let me sleep. :Banane56:

I guess I could agree with not allowing an entire thread to be delted, but as we have discussed before - what's the point in that when your entire post has been Quoted elsewhere in the thread? If you are going to take away the option to completely remove a thread that someone has started and then later regrets it, I think you'll have to do away with the quote option as well. And then people can still copy and paste. So that still isn't achieving anything. I think people should have the right to remove a thread that has become a source of upset and pain to them, for whatever reason. If that leaves us open to people who also delete threads because they are angry, or are just in a pissy mood, then so be it. I see no reason to treat everyone like a child just because one or two have behaved like one. (Not that I think anyone did, but that seems to be the basis for these changes.)

I do realize that you are trying to do what you think is best for LBT, Alexandra. And I can see where you are coming from in your thinking on this. However, I really disagree with the proposed changes.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
