How well do you tolerate soda after banding?

Recommended Posts

My nutritionist said not to. it hurts badly. My surgeon says its a personal choice and it effects everyone differently. I just got mine today, i probabley wont try it for awhile if i ever do. This last month i went from quite a few daily to less then one a week on the liquid diet, Hard enough getting in all the required liquid, I didnt even think about pop, even when it was right in front of me!

I agree with elcee that this topic has been argued to the ground. I drink diet soda and have had no problem with it. It actually helps when I feel a little tight buy everyone is different. But listen to your dr, if they said no, you are doing it at your own risk. My dr has no problem with it but they are all different.

Think about your question.

Your asking how well do u tolerate.

Anything you have to say: tolerate, for.. I don't think should have to be used.

Definition if tolerate: something that one does not like or agree with.

Listen to your body. Don't make it "tolerate" soda. This is the time to give back to your body and give it what it needs! :)

LOL

There are many things I tolerate.

Using your definition - Something I don't like - vegetables - there are many that I don't really like but I tolerate them because they are good for me.

Something I don't agree with - well that could be any no of people. Here on LBT and in "real" life.

My doctor told me I can if I want to. With that said I'm actually drinking a diet coke right now. my surgery was 2 years and 1 month ago. I have never had a problem with drinking sodas. Nothing has happened to my band. My doctor advised me that most doctors say no about carbonated beverages such as cokes/ alcohol just because they want you to change your diet and such and not really rely so much on the band. I've lost almost 100 pounds since surgery. Today I weighed in at a check up dr apt at 130.2. I'm not really the best example only because I haven't had any problems with band slipping or anything and I still eat everything except not much bread or rice, just smaller portions.

My Dr. said all carbonation is out. I have had sips of soda here and there and even the smallest sip HURTS! Not worth it IMO. Thankfully I wasn't a soda junkie. Seltzer was my poison, I have the soda stream now and I can control how much carbonation my seltzer has if IF I get the urge, which is almost never!

My Doctor said to drink flat soda but who wants flat soda, not me so I am just not having it agian. Why risk it for something that you don't really need that is my opinion.

I drink 1 soda a day. Regular soda too....I have been doing this for well over a year. No band issues...no strecthed pouch! I am currently at my goal weight as well...so I also disagree with the above

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
