I was banded 2/18/13...I've had so many people bash my band. It usually goes like this..OMG you have mutilated your body, or you know that band has a high failure rate, or the plain old you should've got the sleeve its the best. I am happy so far with my band. I started at 273 post op and now weigh 239. I have yet to get a fill or even be cleared for excercise. Why must people bash my band. Please let me know how you feel and how you handle Band Bashers.. thanks

I tell them to educate themselves before running their mouths about something they clearly know nothing about.

Here's a great article about a study and the success of the band. Perhaps you can give it to those giving you problems so they'll see the truth? http://www.futurity.org/health-medicine/weight-stays-off-long-after-lap-band-surgery/

Well tell them the failure rate of the band is only 1% so they are the people who fail the band not that the band fails and when your all skinny tell them then how the band was a failure.

And so often it's folks who could use the band themselves. Jealousy? Envy you had the courage to actually make a difference?

Or the "I cut out french fries for a month and ran 3 miles" group?

You'll never please everyone but you seem to be pleasing yourself?

Good job!

Sorry you have to deal with this. But you are stronger than me. I didn't tell anyone except family because I didn't want to deal with those types of people.

Good luck, and stay strong!

Besides its not the band they really have the problem with, its the fact you will be looking hot and sexy and they will still look like godzilla. Rock the band on.

seems to me, the ones who bash or protest the loudest are the ones who dont understand or have a clue (as to what it is) or how it works....everyone has an opinion on everything...id say ignore them but its hard to do... i heard it also and just said, you know what, i had to do what i had to do to save my life.....that shut them up....

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
