I was banded 2/18/13...I've had so many people bash my band. It usually goes like this..OMG you have mutilated your body, or you know that band has a high failure rate, or the plain old you should've got the sleeve its the best. I am happy so far with my band. I started at 273 post op and now weigh 239. I have yet to get a fill or even be cleared for excercise. Why must people bash my band. Please let me know how you feel and how you handle Band Bashers.. thanks

I must live in an alternate universe. I have told everyone who has asked about my weight loss how I did it, some have asked polite questions, but most have simply congratulated me on my success. Business and Church, the reaction has been the same.

Now, it could be the fact that if someone had the balls to tell me I had made the wrong choice when confronted by my obvious success, would no longer possess them after the conversation was done. But I choose to believe otherwise. :o

Sorry to hear that people are mean. There are so many I have never told because I don't want to hear their BS. The band is either personal or tell the world with some people.

Maybe stop telling those negative nellies any thing and just use this site to talk to all that care.

I totally agree. I opt for telling people I'm excercising and changing my eating habits...anything else is simply not their business...I gave up trying to make them get it. I'm trying to live a better life for me.

Funny this should come up, but I just got a call from one of the other managers where I work, he wanted to talk to me about the surgery and to get the contact info for my surgeon.

I told everyone about the band - strangers, friends, family, everyone. I went from getting reactions like 'why did you do something so drastic' to 'Omg you look amazing' when I lost all the weight.

I am a walking testimony that the Lapband works so all the haters can suck on it. Except now I've lost the weight there seems to be no more haters. Weird huh?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
