Nervous about not being able to get plication. My insurance will cover surgery but not the PROGRAM FEE. I asked what the program fee covers and was told for Facebook support group, one fill and reduced fee for dietician $35 per visit. Thoughts?? Comments??

when I FINALLY got approval I called to schedule the surgery. The nurse said "oh the hospital has us on a hiatus from doing plication" it scares me because I had to go thru hell to get the approval, my insurance pays for one a lifetime so I must get the most for my buck. The competition here in town is a center of excellance bariatrics and they charge NO program fee. the program fee here is $500.

As far at the plication, I really wouldn't worry about it. You can lose just as much without it as you can with it.

Now, as for the program fee.. $500 and that only includes ONE fill? Granted this is just my opinion, but I don't think it's worth $500. I would expect more fills, at least one dietician visit to be included, and a Facebook support group as "included" in a fee is kinda ridiculous.

Is the one charging the $500 fee a Center of Excellence? If not, honestly I'd go check out the competitor that is. At the end of the day, you have to choose the best surgeon, but it wouldn't hurt to check out all your options before making a decision. Just my opinion.

No don't feel terrible. You have to do what is best for you, especially where your health is concerned. If you go see doctor 2 and still like doctor 1 best, great, stick with doctor 1. But if you find you like doctor 2 better, you owe it to yourself to turn your care over to doctor 2.

Good luck with your decision!

I've lost 193 pounds without plication so believe me, you can totally lose 75 pounds with just the band. There are many, many others on here just like me who've lost considerable weight without plication, too.

Once you choose a doctor and start getting ready for surgery, you'll find out about fill schedule, the Green Zone, what and how much to eat, etc. It's all part of the process. And, don't be afraid to ask your doctor questions. A good doctor will take the time to answer them.

Best wishes :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
