I had my lap band done on Tuesday and I am so uncomfortable, I had mentally prepared myself for the life style change but the pain I feel is sometimes unbearable. I am starting to think I made the wrong decision. I have been to the doctor twice to get a unfill since Tuesday and am still in pain even when drinking water... I almost want to just give up and have it removed... Please help

for god sake you had major surgery what did u expect? rest, use a heating pad, pain meds if it helps stool softners to get things moving. As you heal and the swelling goes down you will feel better. This isn't a good place to be but life gets better everyday for months to come. you can do this and taking it out will not make you feel better since it isn't the band but the swelling.

It gets better I'm 5 weeks out and just Thursday I felt the most like myself since surgery. I felt just like you feel . Pray hopefully you have good support and take it one day at a time.

So the surgeon put some saline in during surgery? Okay, when they do that, sometimes its a bit much right out of surgery. You're already very swollen and then add the extra tight band, of course you're going to feel like pooh. Make sure to stay on top of your meds, antinausea meds and stool softners. Walk around to prevent blood clots, pneumonia and to get the gas out from surgery. But also know your limits and rest. Becareful when getting in and out of bed. Roll if you can instead of sitting up. Honestly, it really bothers me when the surgeons get aggressive with fills, especially during surgery. Your stomach and esophagus needs to heal first. I was 4 weeks post op before my physical gave me a small fill. Some people can handle it I guess. Best of luck!

Yea I didn't like it when my surgeon told me he doesn't fill until 2 months after surgery but I know why now. I'm not the surgeon but I am a nurse and I don't agree with them filling immediate post op because of the swelling and I firmly believe they should gradually increase you until you learn the stages. Just my opinion.

I was overfilled at the time of surgery. I had significant pain with swallowing liquids until he took most of the Fluid out. So if you're wincing with pain after drinking Water, just know that it shouldn't be that way. This pain should also be different than your surgical incision pain, which takes a few weeks to go away.

I'm very sorry you're struggling. A couple of things to remember- you just had major surgery so you're healing but also there's something in the anesthetic that makes people very emotional. Because of these two things, you are not only physically hurting but you're likely not in a very good place mentally right now either.

If your doctor filled the band during surgery and it's causing you pain, you could always ask him to remove all of it. I know you said you had two unfills but if he didn't take it all out, you may want to consider it. Some people (like me) would never be able to handle big fills or a bunch in their band right after surgery.

Best wishes and hang in there, it does get a lot better and easier.

So I'm sorry to be too graphic here but remember, someone filled your body cavity full of gas, they pumped fluids, medications, antibiotics and anesthesia into your body. They punched 5 holes in your body, moved all your inner body parts around, shoved a tube down your throat, wrapped a plastic strap around your stomach, stitched in place with 5-6 sutures bringing your lower stomach up over the band and then snaked a tube out of your body and then sewed another plastic piece to the muscle tissue on your rib cage.

Now, thinking about all that has been done to your body, you're doing quite well aren't you?

My surgery was on 2/27. My follow up is next week Thursday 3/7 just to check my incisions and see how I am doing. My first fill isn't until the 23rd of March. Hang in there, the pain takes awhile to subside...b

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
