I'm 5 weeks in and haven't had a filling yet. I've gradually been able to eat a little more and hungry more often. Please tell me the filling will correct this!!

My doc scheduled my first fill one month after surgery. Not sure what "normal" is, doctors seem to vary quite a bit.

I had my 1st fill 3wks after surgery and 2 more fills since then 2 wks apart and I'm just now getting into the green zone. My surgery was 12/26/12. I was starving right after my surgery and was so glad to get that 1st fill. You should call your clinic/Dr and get that 1st fill, it'll make a big difference.

I'm scheduled for a fill. Doctor won't do it till its been six weeks to insure complete healing. I'm just hoping it will cut back on what I can eat and stop the hunger. I'm surprised by what I can eat and just have this fear I've stretched!!!

From what I've seen, 4 to 6 weeks post op seems to be the most common times for fills. After the first, its usually between 2 to 4 weeks. Call and see if they aren't willing to check you out sooner. I had to do a barium swallow, see the nutritionist, physical therapist and then final approval from my physician 4 weeks post op before she'd let me have a fill. To make sure I was mentally and physically capable of having a fill. I really didn't need one, but I thought it wouldn't hurt and that maybe I was getting close to that point of feeling hungry again.

I would find out when your doctor plans for you to have your first fill. But no it's not uncommon that you haven't had 1 yet. Also I'm not trying to be a downer but don't expect your first fill to do anything. It might take you several fills to feel any restriction it took me 6 months.

I had that same fear I had second thoughts as to why I had the surgery but it's because you have NO restriction. This is in case of swelling. Some people swell more than others after surgery better to be too loose than too tight. Your going to do great it just takes a while to get to that darn green zone.

It's all about self control right now....many of us could eat more than we should, we have to chose not to. I've had one fill and I could still eat more than I should but I choose not to. Best Wishes :)

Having adequate Fluid in your band will help to control hunger. Optimally, it should allow you to to be satisfied on a cup or less of food for at least 4 hours. However, some people take multiple fills to reach this point so don't be surprised if you don't notice a lot (or any) difference after your first fill.

Now as far as cutting back on what you can eat- that's not the band's the job. That's your job. The band's job isn't to restrict what you can physically eat. It will always be your job to make good food choices and stay within band sized portions.

Have a look at this link, I think it'll help you considerably: http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-eating/lap-band-not-restriction/lap-band-and-restriction.html

Best wishes.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
