I'm two weeks post op. I thought I

would add a little Fiber into my diet...powder form. O boy! Bad move. I am stuffed! I'm uncomfortable! Has anyone else used fiber to help with Poop issues? If so what's your rule of thumb? How do I make this situation work better in the future? Thank you in advance.

I follow the instructions on the package.

Metamucil: 1 teaspoon dissolved in 8 oz of Water, 3 times a day.

My gastro doc's NP told me that using fiber powder can make you uncomfortable at first. Maybe you're extra uncomfortable because you're only 2 weeks post-op. You might also want to talk to someone at your surgeon's office about whether it's OK to start using fiber powder now.

Hope you feel better soon!

Talk to your doctor. Don't give up on fiber! I did and was told at my last colonoscopy that I have divroticulosos . Now I do what Jean does and use Metamucil.

I am having issues in that department too! I feel like I am taking alot of things to make me go...and it doesn't. Will I always have to "assist myself" to go? I guess this is something to speak to my doctor about when I see them in the next few weeks.

I just started the fiber gummies. They are pretty good, not what I was thinking they would taste like. I hope they work as I was not liking the powder.

Just remember with fiber you HAVE to drink plenty of Water otherwise the fiber makes Constipation worse in that it will swell up and stop up the bowels.

That would be a nightmare! I am the guilty party who has been hospitalized for dehydration....that was my first week out....I will put Water on my must do list. Thank you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
