Banded 1/30 Not Losing??

Recommended Posts

I am totally stumped. I was banded over a month ago and haven't been able to lose an ounce since my initial 6 pound post op loss. I am religiously logging my foods into My Fitness Pal and range between 700-1100 calories per day (rarely over 1000). I am kicking butt at the gym- 5 days a week now and I don't leave until I burn a minimum of 400 calories per day. What am I doing wrong? I'm drinking lots of Water. My clothes fit better and people are telling me I look like I'm losing but no scale in the world will prove it to me :( I hope this wasn't a mistake. :( my first fill is on two weeks.

so your clothes are looser (which to me says you are losing via inches) which is what matters.....as scale numbers go up and down all day long.....and just because the scale numbers are not moving as fast as you like does not mean the band is not working or you are not losing.......because you are losing weight in inches....i see no problem as you are eating right, exercising etc...the mistake is (thinking what you are thinking right now). hang with it...

Thank you! I refuse to give up, but wonder if this has happened to anyone else out there. I've never been this "good" before :/

Ha ha break a nail! Too funny! It's just frustrating because people and family members will ask how much I've lost, nothing! Also I fear the doctors office. They will think I am not following a diet :/ they won't notice my clothes fit better lol.

You are still in healing mode and I don't think you are eating enough calories so your body is freaking out, thinking you are starving it and holding onto everything. You might want to try to up your calories for a few days and then go back down to 1200, give your body a bit of a shock. Until you hit your green zone you are really on a diet and that can take many months to get to good restriction so that you are not hungry between meals and losing regularly. I wasn't allowed in the gym for 6-8 weeks........

Good luck.

I've heard this up my calories thing from a few people! I may try this and see. I remember back in Weight watchers they would always say people weren't eating enough. I never believed them. Will try it! My doctor said I could walk, so I'm spending an hour on the treadmill. Hope that's ok. i walk slow but uphill. No lifting!

Walking is great........I remember I was ready to go back to the gym at week 2 and my clinic used the term 'pop a sticth' , kept me away until it was time........lots of internal healing.

good luck.

I'll admit I'm on day 2 post op and I really want to try a brief jog but I'm just gonna have to settle for walking around the house and maybe outside as it warms up this week. My surgeon was very adamant about waiting 6 weeks before any running.

tell them its not what you lost but what you have gained........and fearing the dr is just stupid....they are the ones who care about you...never fear them.

I weigh daily as well so I'll often lose 5 lbs in a day gain 4 back the next then lose .5 lbs over 3 days then gain one back. What helps is to look at your daily weights on a chart even though it's a bumpy road I'm happy as long as I can see it's downhill from 1,2, and especially 3 months ago.

On average a person's brain will place 80% of their interpretation of the world on visual data. It's amazing how much more reinforcing a line graph can be than a list of numbers even if they say the same thing technically.

Relax, what you commented on is very common. I lost 12 lbs the first 2 weeks and then nothing for the next 3.5 months. Here's a video that confirms everything everyone else has posted. You're doing super!

Honestly I would love to just drop even a pound a week. To not see any movement in five weeks is just baffling. I know if I wasn't watching my calories and working out, I would surely be gaining. Maybe in a few weeks I will see a change. Will watch the video after work. Thank you everyone for your support!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
