Something's keeping me from having success

Recommended Posts

I have had my band for 1 1/2 years and I've lost hardly any weight. What I have lost is coming back on rapidly. I definately have reduced the amount I eat at meals but 30 mins later I'm hungry and start looking for a satisfying sugar fix. I understand the nutrition component and its importance, but it's not lack of understanding. I know what to eat, I just can't seem to do it. The exercise component was going great until a few weeks ago i found out i have compartment syndrome. This should be fixed soon so im not worried but the inability to control sugar urges is really bothering me. Anyone else have this problem?

Are you keeping up with your fills? If your hungry after 30 minutes of eating you may need one.

Call your doctor and the dietitian. They should be able to help you. I find eating a salad about an hour before my dinner helps me a lot and I eat it very slowly.

No I don't need a fill. Plus they can't adjust it right claimed the natural shape if my stomach causes it to be tight or loose no middle ground. I eat the amount I should at dinner for example and feel full but then I'm hungry a short time later. I think maybe its too tight and I stop eating before I've had enough. Then it passes quickly which would imply its to loose. So them I'm hungry but feel that need for sugar cuz I don't want to eat another meal.

Since it has been a while since you were banded, perhaps a visit with the NUT would be helpful to get some meal plans and to talk about how to work around the issues you are having.

I've done the nutrition consults but they say I'm eating what I should minus the sugar binge and have no idea what's going on either. Then they start trying to guilt me telling me I'm lying about my food. If I'm telling them about the after meal sugar fix how am I lying?

Start to journal EVERYTHING you eat or drink in a day. Keep track of the calories and protien! How much are you eating per meal? Are you eating your protiens first? When you see it all written down maybe something will jump off the page that you missed! Good luck, i hope you figure it out!

But if you're hungry only 30 minutes after eating, then you do need a fill or something done to fix your band placement because the band doesn't have enough Fluid in it to control your hunger. It's like not having a band at all if you can only go a half hour before you're hungry again.

I understand there's an issue with the shape of your stomach, but how much is in your band? Has your doctor tried very little fill amounts? Even a fill as small as .1cc can make a difference.

To be real honest, if I were in your shoes, I would seek out another bariatric surgeon for a second opinion. Something just doesn't sound right at all. A good bariatric surgeon wouldn't let their patient go with a poorly fit band that isn't doing them any good.

Everything you say. sounds like something I would have said 100 times when I was dieting, before I had WLS....you did not mention anything about the band.....other than you've had it for 1-1/2 years and it did not do anything.....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
