Make sure that all your meds are safe to be crushed. There are extended release meds and pain meds that should NEVER be crushed!!!!

My clinic told me that I should be able to swallow pills as soon as I am able to eat solid food (after the swelling from surgery has gone down), I have been crushing my meds and putting them in a syringe filled with white grape juice as it is fairly strong tasting and just squirt it in my mouth followed by a chaser of more white grape juice (sips), I have found this has worked best. I also went to the pharmacy and got chew-able forms of gravol, gas-x and even children's chew-able advil, you have to chew three to five pills, but it sure tastes better then crushing the adult doses. Hope this helps!

I did the same thing, sorta. I used to crush my pills, mix it in a spoon of yogurt, down it and real quick, have a few more spoons of yogurt. The idea-to get that spoonful down ASAP and do a yogurt chaser ASAP.

Good luck, it won't be forever!

Didn't crush any of my pills and I was fine. Took them with juice or applesauce so they went down easier.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
