Just had my surgery yesterday

Recommended Posts

Feeling really sore. I tried not to take any pain meds but that was a dumb idea. I have been needing 10mg of oxycodone every 4 hours on the dot. Been walking as much as I can. The most painful is my left side. Anyone else experience that. It feels like a really bad side ache like after you run.

Trying to keep up with my fluids. It's hard to tell though when I'm drinking if the pressure I feel is my stomach getting full or if it is still gas.

Anyway all in all not too bad and have already dropped 4 lbs since yesterday. I think it is mostly fluids but still!!

Yes I have the same pain. I am 1 week post op and have called the dr evey day asking them if this pain is normal. They insist it is even though it feels like a knife in my side. They explained that the port is on that side right under fatty tissue and that medal feet deploy and are stitched into place so there will be a lot of pain and irritation. Take some ibuprofen it will help more than the pain med. This will take about a month to feel better. This is the biggest issue i am dealing with too and the ibuprofen has helped. Hope this info helps take it easy.

I wouldn't force fluids to the point you're uncomfortable or your stomach is distended.

Ibuprofen? Did your doctor clear you to take ibuprofen? It's one of those drugs that are on most all docs list of no no drugs? Tylenol is OK but supposedly ibuprofen can cause ulcers if they get hung up in your pouch.

My doctor did clear me to take ibuprofen. I know they restricted me to just Tylenol before surgery. I called and asked if I could try ibuprofen instead of the oxy to see if that works better and may avoid Constipation and the doctor said that was totally fine. So I will give it a shot. ;)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
