Why did YOU choose the Lap-Band over other weight loss procedures ?

Less invasive, quick surgery and irreversible.

Very pleased I took the plunge!!

I know at least 6 people who did the by pass and gained the weight back plus. I feel the Band you are more in control and it was not a major surgery. The sleeve is too much of the body removed. With both of those surgeries you lose weight much faster and being over 60 I wanted slower so my body could adjust better. Best thing I did for me, sorry I didn;t know about it years ago or this site before the surgery.

Thank you Alex for this site, it helps me a lot.

To be honest, I have a commitment phobia when it comes to losing weight! I didn't want to alter anything or permanently change things even if it meant losing weight! Plus, in the back of my mind, way back(lol), I was wondering if I could do it! There were so many other things out there that people have tried and been successful, however, I always seemed to fail! This was my saving grace! To be able to accept help in a way that was more drastic than diet pills but less drastic than by-pass. To be able to have it removed if I wanted or needed to in the future and not suffer permanent consequences physically. It was the perfect answer for me that landed right in the middle of all other choices! I haven't been perfect and the band hasn't been perfect, but when we work together we seem to be a great team!

I was given a choice of a balloon or band. I didn't see the point of a balloon as I felt that was only a temporary solution. Noone mentioned a sleeve at that point and a bypass was considered to be "overkill" for someone with my starting BMI.

It is less invasive, faster recovery time, reversible, and I know some one who had gastric bypass and gained it back.

for years i wanted the bypass...i wanted it quick

so when time came for truth, realization, i couldnt do it

once they cut, it cant be fixed.....hence my choice to band and plication.

I'd like to thank you all for your great responses. I posted this question while I was in a room with over 30 Bariatric professionals, including the creator of the Lap-band! It was really awesome to receive almost immediate feedback from our awesome members. Thanks!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
