A throwback day

Recommended Posts

Wow, this is what happens when you don't have Protein for Breakfast. You nibble nuts all morning, and since you're eating you don't drink. At lunchtime you are ravenous and eat too fast. Ouch. Then you come home to a snowbound afternoon and eat, hmmm, what, hmmm, cheese crackers, salmon Soup, cheese crackers, chocolate turtles, etc. You're still not drinking Water.

Then daddy comes home and it's dinner time, and he puts corned beef and cabbage on the table. You eat a decent portion of that. Now you're thirsty and finally want Water, but are so full it's not going to work. So you eat a brownie. ;)

Of course, the presence of a band means that even a day like this isn't what it used to be, but even so the loss of control is very disheartening. I can't wait until tomorrow.

I can appreciate your day!

I had alot of Water today...6 boiled shrimp for lunch...a few melba rounds with pub cheese...and for dinner at work we ordered pizza...amazed that I was able to eat as much as I did...although they are small pieces and very thin crust...

Do I feel bad? Hell no...I have had such a hard time eating for the past three weeks I'm enjoying my little loose days!

I know what you mean Jennye. I I just enjoy days I can eat more, because sometimes it's hard getting enough down..

Lately I have been snacking a lot on snicker ice cream bars, but I dont feel bad at all ;)

There is still plenty of time to loose the remaining 30 or 40 pounds, I am just giving my body the time to adjust to the weightloss....

Leo,

Why is restriction like this? I feel like I could bang my head up against the wall trying to figure it out...and it scares me when I'm all of a sudden loose...but the night before I was trying to eat 1/2 of what I ate today...all these crazy thoughts go through my head...did I stretch my pouch...did my band slip...am I going nuts! EESH!

I went thru the questioning phase also, am I eating to much? Should I be eating this? Am I drinking enough Water? On and On...

Where is my restriction gone?? How come I can eat a slice of pizza or Why can't I even sip Water? Did I make the band slip because I ate that pizza and then Pb'd??

Lols.. But i'm still doing fine and still loosing eventhough it has slowed down a bit lately.

after a while the questions stop popping up and everything settled down into a daily ritual.

I now just enjoy my food and I eat what I want, ofcourse depending on where I am I will choose certain foods. If I am on a luncheon with people I always go for Soups.. I dont want to risk a pb attack. But if I am home I eat whatever I want.

Hey Alexandra,

You are usually so uplifting to others I thought I would try my hand at it when you are feeling down:( I wonder how often this happened before you were banded and how often it happens now. Even though it was a rough day you still got through it thinking already about how good the next day was going to be. It sounds to me like to have incredible control and deserve a bad day once in a while. The best part is you haven't lost the control:) I know when I lose it, it usually lasts weeks and I end up putting all plus more back on. I hope I find in the band what it looks like you found - my "control" back! You truly inspire me even on a throwback day.;)

Thanks for all your comments to me and others,

Kathy, thanks for your lovely message. That uplifting demeanor you see on me is not constant, of course; I get depressed and blue all the time like everyone else. Just not about my weight, I guess--or at least, that's not my worst issue. (That would be my job. Yuck.)

I think I've taught myself to detach from my weight through years of assuming there was nothing I could really do about it. I stopped torturing myself in my 30s after Optifast and a host of other things failed to keep weight off. I decided that I'd better just accept it and try to stay healthy, the hell with pretty.

Now I have to do a bit of an about-face, and step actively in to trying once again to do something about my weight. And that is really really hard to do! But I'm trying, and the band is keeping me from failing too miserably. Which is all I ask of it, actually. ;)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
