Are you asking about how much you're to eat? I thought it was measured by cup size and not weight size but I could be wrong and some doctors may have different parameters. It's how much food fits into 1/2-1 cup as I understand it. How much it weighs should be irrelevent?

Now if you're weighing food to measure calories and nutrition, it would be before cooking. jmo

Yes - I was wondering mainly for food and nutrition purposes. Also I was told to eat approximately 3-4oz of meat....

if your measuring for calories it's super important to weigh your food before cooking

Ex. Red meat

Loses weight (due to losing moisture) when cooked but it doesn't lose calories, fat, nutrition, etc

Ex. Rice Pasta etc

gains weight (absorbs moisture) after cooking but doesn't gain calories, nutrition, Etc

If your measuring strictly for amounts of food.. Then after is fine

May I respectfully disagree with you? If I cook ground meat, there is a substantial amount of fat left in the skillet after I drain it. Same with other cuts of meat as well. My personal belief is that the supermarkets add Water to increase the profit margin, which is one of the reasons I grind my own.

As for volume vs. calories, different Dr.s have different rules. Mine uses both, no more than a specific volume, and heading for a specific calorie range.

Absolutely..after you cook it. Some meat (specifically frozen chicken) has Water injected and you're sure as sh*t not going to want that to be part of your 3-4 ounces. So after cooking for sure.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
