5 days post op and shoulder pain?

Recommended Posts

Got banded 2/21/13. Each day that passes I feel better and I'm able to take in more food and liquids with less pain. I put in my frist full day of work today. Feeling tired but hanging in there.

I didn't have any noticible shoulder pains after my surgery or if i did, very, very minimal. But I woke up this morning and my left shoulder has really been hurting me. Could it still be the gas from the surgery 5 days out? I tried the gas-x strips and they hellp for the gas from eating/drinking but they didn't help the shoulder pain. Could I try Mylanta liquid?

It does sound like gas pain....my surgeon told me it's the nerve that runs up to your shoulder that is irritated by the gas. I had it from day 2 until about day 9 and it really kicked my butt...the only thing that helped me was my heating pad..Congratulations on your banding and Best Wishes! :)

Yes the shoulder pain is from the gas used during your surgery. GasX will not help this. Walking and a heating pad is what is recommended. As for Mylanta you should call your doctor and ask.

Sorry you are suffering, but it will ease up.

Congrats on your new healthy life.

Shoulder pain came and went for about 2.5 months. Gasx, heating pad, peppermint tea. I usually felt alot of relief if I stood and walked around.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
