Problem drinking protein

Recommended Posts

I had to do a liquid Protein diet pre op for a month, after surgery there was no way I could drink them again without gagging or feeling nauseated, I told my surgeon if he made me drink them I'd be throwing up constantly. I concentrated on staying hydrated whilst healing and wasn't too fussy about my Protein intake till I was on solids three weeks later. To this day I have not had one Protein Drink since pre op. I get it from my food intake and have lost every week since July 2012 when I was banded.

If I see those drinks or powders on a shelf I instantly want to gag lol.

so I bought some of the whey Protein Shots and it isn't that bad. I can actually tolerate the taste of it and get it down without gagging and trying to vomit. Thanks everyone for the input. This is the beginning of a hopefully great journey. I want to do right, but this pure liquid is hard!

Jolly Rancher' date=' huh? Before surgery, my nurse recommended that I drink fruit Isopure drinks. They taste like Jolly Ranchers and have 50 gms of Protein. So I paid 70 for a case of them on GNC.com. Helloooo...They don't taste anything like Jolly Ranchers. They were nasty. Ended up giving my whole case to a friend whos a body builder. Also spent a fortune on Muscle Milk. Also gross. ended up spending 15 on a big tub of Protein Powder at Walmart that was drinkable.

I know what you mean about gagging to drink them tho. Every hour when I was sposed to drink 1 oz of Protein shake, I gagged. The strawberry isn't too badtho. reminds me of strawberry Quick. Never had another Protein Shake after I started eating real food. You're almost there!

I buy body fortress at Walmart I love the chocolate. It costs around $15. I use 8oz of skim milk and lots of ice in a blender. I have been having one for Breakfast for about a year. I use 2 scoops

Elite Gourmet Milk chocolate Protein powder. It tastes awesome with skim milk or over sugar free Jello milk chocolate bliss pudding!

If you can handle dairy I drink Rockin Refuel, low sugar & low carbs. 30g of Protein. They are in the milk section of my grocery store (Stop & Shop). Also, try "About Time" they make an unflavored 1 that's good with anything. Good luck!

I recently tried About Time Protein and think the flavors I have tried are great. I tried the cinnamon and cake batter.

Website- www.tryabouttime.com

I also liked that you can order single serving to try out before buying a jug.

I am 1 week post op' date=' surgery was Feb 20th, I am on liquids for 2 weeks and the dietician told me that I need to make sure that I get in plenty of Protein everyday. I am having a HARD time doing this. I bought the Pure Protein, chocolate flavor, and everytime I smell it or think about it, I start gagging and trying to vomit. Can someone recommend another type to try, if not I'm just not going to be able to get in the needed protein.

Thanks,

I am 1 week post op and use ISO-100. Its actually pretty good. The shakes arent going to be the best because its not real food but we need them. Try this one. Got it at Hi health runs about 35 bucks. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
