First fill tomorrow - really scared

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I am starting to get really nervous about my first fill, does it hurt? I have the lowest pain threshold going.

Have you ever had anything waxed? Legs, bikini line, eyebrows? If you have then you have willingly suffered far more pain than there is having a fill.

I was worried when I had my first fill too and when my Dr. was done I didn't even know it. They will numb you up before and you won't feel a thing.

You had surgery and have a band wrapped around the inside of your stomach and a port sewn to your ab muscles......I think you will do just fine with a little pin prick. At my clinic, they do put some freezing in if you request, but really, it is a pin prick. We women go thru alot worse to look beautiful. Good luck.

Just had my first fill yesterday and felt similar to you. The procedure itself did not hurt - numbed first. I did feel him pushing inside a bit to locate the right part of the port - it felt strange but not painful.

I freaked out a bit when the nurse told me I had to go back to Clear Liquids for 10 days - she acted like I should have known this from the dietary guidelines! I explained that I had MEMORIZED the dietary guidelines and fills were not addressed at all. I spoke to the Dr and he said that was not necessary - a few days of liquids and then soft foods as tolerated. After reading more about others fills, I decided to take it easy yesterday with clears and progress to full liquid today. No problem at all.

You will do great!

I felt a small poke and that was it. She had me put my hands behind my heard and do a small crunch then she felt around for the port, then poke! No problem at all. She said liquids for two days.

They can give you a shot of lidocaine if it's really painful to you. The needle really is a tiny prick. Really. It's nothing.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
