Took my before pictures - what a horrible eye opener!

Recommended Posts

I am one week pre-op and had my husband take before pictures in the skimpiest two piece I own (long story about needing a suit right then and that was all they had). I know I am overweight. I know I need this surgery. But when I look down at my body or in the mirror I do not see the body I saw in those pictures! I am glad this is a "before" but really looking forward to some "afters". Pictures just don't lie!

I hear ya. I don't feel like what I actually looked like. But then I put my current pics next to my pre op. it's embarrassing and I looked awful. Much better now although I still have weight to lose.

Scared Straight I was!! Pictures are the best way to make us face reality. Because I tell you that is not what I see in the mirror!!

You will be happy to have those pics later! I didn't have many before pics of myself. The one in my profile pic is the one that my dr took right before my surgery. It took me a long time to ask for it because I knew how bad it looked too!

I totally understand. I just had my surgery on the 22nd. A couple nights before my daughter captured a picture of me on her nintendo Dsi. She was all proud of herself and said "Mom look i took a picture of you". I was so surprised at how big i looked i had her snap the same pic with my phone. That is now my official "before" pic. It will be nice to be able to look back at that and see the changes, but talk about an eye opener. I knew i was big but when someone snaps a pic of you when your not sucking in or posing to look your best it really shows what you look like.

I completely am right there with you. I had pre pics taken in just bra and panties and I about died when I saw them. Then a month post op I have lost 20 pounds and a couple pant sizes. Took more pics. Was still shocked. I feel so much lighter and my clothes are bigger, but I look almost exactly the same as before. I'll have to do a side by side to really see a difference.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
