I am really feeling kind of down. I had surgery in September 2012. I was feeling great and was losing. I then stopped. I exercise now 5 times a week. I stick to the cup of food but stopped losing. I have lost 40 lbs and try to stay motivated. I am thinking of going back to my full liquid diet days. I need help. I already have 8cc in my band. I do feel hungry at times but want to reserve the rest of my space for later.

Please tell me how I can jump start weight loss again .

Maybe you are exercising too much for the amount of calories you are eating. When you exercise a lot and take in little food your body will hold on to it. I would up your calories and especially your Protein to see if that helps or only resort to exercising 3 days a week.

Cheryl

Thank you so much. I never thought about that. We always think we are taking in too much and never think about not enough.

Great point.

remember muscle weighs more than fat so if your building muscle you will be gaining weight, but not in the bad way. Good luck

Before you up your calories, you mention that you are sticking to a cup of food, but what is in that cup, and how many calories?

How long have you been at a plateau?

If your sticking with a certain amount of calories per day and getting in the amount of protien needed and still not losing, maybe you need to shake things up a little. Do you do the same excersice everyday? Do you eat the same foods everyday? If you do your body will adjust to that! When I would hit a plateau I would start something different and it would restart the weightless! Good Luck!

on muscle weighing more than fat:

Muscle vs. Fat Weight

Muscle is heavier by volume -- or more dense -- than fat. Muscle does not weigh more than fat, since 5 lbs. is 5 lbs. For example, a 5 lb. bag of potatoes weighs the same as a 5 lb. dumbbell. However, 5 lbs. of potatoes is much bulkier than the dumbbell. The same goes for fat and muscle tissue. The fat tissue will take up more room on your body while muscle will take up less. That's why muscle looks better on your body and therefore, your progress might not be seen on the scale.

And because muscle is more dense than fat, a measuring tape is your friend. It will tell the story your scale won't.

Well said. I have been debating this one with some coworkers who had WLS before me. They eat all kinds of bad junk. And say that they are not losing cuz muscle weighs more than fat. If ur not working out then I'm skeptical that it's muscle weight.

It's frustrating but plateaus are expected during the weight loss process.

How many calories are you eating a day?

I am getting in about 1200 cal per day when I look at my daily log but it is more fruits and veggies and not enough peotein.

I am getting in about 1200 cal per day when I look at my daily log but it is more fruits and veggies and not enough peotein.

That could do it, plus Protein helps your feel full longer too.

Here's a formula to figure out how much Protein you need:

How to Calculate Your Protein Needs:

1. Weight in pounds divided by 2.2 = weight in kg

2. Weight in kg x 0.8gm/kg = protein gm

So if you weigh 200 pounds, it would be

200 / 2.2= 90

90 x 0.8= 72g of protein per day

Best wishes on your journey. You're on the right track so keep going strong!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
