Hi I absolutely love seafood !!! Especially shrimp and although I'm still in my post op liquid stage I know not to eat solids until after 6 weeks but is it possible to enjoy say shrimp? Crab lobster? Also what do y'all think about tortillas or cake not that I would eat it because well I worked so hard but if I had a craving once in a while and took a bite or two . Has anyone had problems with these foods???

well I'm 8 mos post op and even tho me and my nutritionist differ on this and well I guess it depends on how much you have in your band but I do fine with shrimp. She tells me not to that it can easily get stuck but I've never gotten stuck on shrimp. As far as cake goes, I do not make it a habit of it as I've come too far on my journey but believe me I have a major sweet tooth and on my mom's birthday which was Feb 15 I ordered her a small 9" Italian Cream Cake double layer and I indulged on a very small sliver of a piece well it caused me to gain a half pound so to me it's not worth it, yes it tastes good but it's the bad habits that I used to have and I would rather sink into some Protein rich sweets like greek yogurt with fruit on bottom or sugar free hard candy like Crystal Light makes hard candy that I love. I just stay away from Cookies, cakes, cupcakes and things like that. Yes I may have a cookie occassionally but not that often, can't honestly tell you the last time I had one and yes they are in the house as I live with my mom since my divorce and she eats those types of things. I also keep skinny cow choc. candy goodies around for special treats, again, don't make a diet of them but have them ever so often. Hope this answers your question.

I don't eat red meat anymore...so it's seafood 4-5 times a week for me.....fish, crab cakes, etc...

But you have to learn to live with your band....some things are very difficult...just have to learn for yourself....it is a learning experience that comes with time and tribulation

For me, shrimp and lobster do not go easily because of the texture., but that is the one food I refuse to give up on........have to take it REAL slow, and very very little....crab is easier....but fish, crab cakes, crab legs, scallops.....

Clams, oysters, mussels, DEFINITELY a NO for for me....they go down like STUCK BOMBS, come right back up IMMEDIATELY.....

But like I said...only You can learn Your band.....also if you are still dieting, then you have to be aware of calories with all the melted butter, tarter sauce, cocktail sauce, etc....

Thank you all for your inputs an opinions I truly appreciate it ! I live close to the border so you can imagine the Mexican sweets and tortillas and fattening Mexican food I have to deal with lol! I will try to remember all these good pointers so I don't get sick so far I'm doing ok I had a Tomato Soup I guess that had bacon (love bacon) but I had to spit it out it didn't make me sick thank god !! But so far I have lost 12 lbs and my surgery date was the 21 of this month so what that's like in 5 days I'm soooo happy to see these few lbs shed before I start working out! Thank you all !

6 weeks before you are on solids??? Did they give you any reason they want you to wait so long? I was on solids at 1 week post op, the day I had my 1-week recheck after surgery he gave the go ahead for solids. I had been on mushies for 2 days at that point.

I know every surgeon is different, but honestly, 6 weeks is a ridiculous amount of time to be on soft foods.

thank God for seafood.... like B, i don't eat too much red meat anymore. I can manage to eat ground beef, but steak is hard. I live in Louisiana so seafood is a must. I eat crab, crab patties, fish, crawfish....

No Flour tortillas for me... but i can eat corn ones. Re-fried bean are great!! good source of Protein.

If you have problems, you could always ground up your shrimp and put it in something. I occasionally have problems with it if I don't pay attention and eat it too quickly and don't chew enough. And it's funny that you ask about cake as I just ate some of the scraps off of the cake I just baked and got stuck pretty good, guess I'm not eating the final product after all :). Although, it had no icing, so that may have helped too.

Double check with your Dr. about the 6 weeks before solids. One of the nurses at my Dr's office accidently gave me the bypass eating plan instead of the Band. When I called to double check they told me it was 1/1 weeks liquids/mushie/solids, not the 3weeks of each.

I had both shrip and lobster. Just chew, chew , chew.

Not really sure, but when i eat Mexican food i normally get, refried beans or quac. to eat with corn chips, and one beef or cheese enchilada. Thats it... no rice, no flour tart, no steak fajitas..... and i have one small margarita

i guess every doctor is different my doctor has me on 1 month clear liquid, then 1 month full liquid , then 1 month muchies , and finally solids. And before you progress to next stage nutricionist has to see you and then you graduate to next stage with nutricionist ok.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
