First day on soft foods- help!

Recommended Posts

I finally transitioned to soft foods today and I am looking for advice. My dinner co sister of 1 egg and 1 egg white (because I measured it before I cooked it and it was 3 oz), 3 oz of mushrooms, and a dot of fat free shredded cheddar cheese. Is that too much! I'm following my doctors guidelines on 3 oz Protein and 3 oz veggies- but I have no clue! I took small bites and as I got about halfway through I started losing interest but finished because I wanted to make are I had adequate protein. It took me 50 minutes to eat! Was this too big of a meal? This is all so new and scary!

Most doctors say you shouldn't take more than 20-30 minutes to finish a meal, and if 20-30 passes you're done eating whether you have food left or not.

Also remember, if you're not hungry or don't feel like finishing a meal, then don't. Listen to your body's natural hunger signals.

Best wishes.

I would encourage you to use MyFitnessPal.com to calculate the protien in your meals. Ounces of protien are less important than total grams of protien. If you're getting full quickly you might want seek some higher protien options as Snacks.< /p>

Thank you all for your help! I use my fitness pal already and swear by it! Also, when I first started eating I waited 5 minutes in between bites because I didn't know how fast to eat (lol). I guess I'll pay more attention today- yesterday was a bit of a trial I guess. Thanks again!

Turns out I got hungry so I had some cottage cheese (about 3/4 of my half a cup) and I felt satisfied. I'm so confused. Haha

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
