I'm a little discouraged. I haven't lost anything post op. I read all these wonderful posts and I'm not one of them.

How post op are you? I lost weight immediately after surgery because of the liquid diet for the first several days. I had enough swelling from surgery that even after I started on the mushy stage, I was losing weight because my intake was limited. Once the swelling went down though...no more losing! I had my third fill 2 weeks ago and am finally losing again. I had surgery in September and have only lost 28 pounds. 23 of that was lost in the first month and a half, while I was healing from surgery. I guess what I am telling you is don't give up. Talk to your surgeon if you feel you should be losing and aren't.

Hi There I was banded on feb 8th. I get my first fill on March 7. We will see what happens. I am drinking Water like a fish. Will that stretch my pouch?

I am like Tiggergramma, surgery in Sept, have lost 33.........19 was pre op and 1 week after. You will not stretch your pouch with liquids, they go right on through.

Many people do not lose in this phase. If you are exercising and eating less than 1200 calories you will begin to lose weight soon. But the band won't provide it's magic till you start getting fills.

If you consume a lot of sodium you will retain Water so try to keep your sodium intake low. I know it's hard since you're probably not on solids yet and most mushies are loaded with salt.

I've also stopped losing, but it's still the beginning so I'm just hanging in there. I'm going for my second fill tomorrow so hopefully that will help and perhaps they will give me some good advice. I'm struggling since my energy level is very low (I also struggle with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome), I have some other health issues I'm trying to cope with and I don't seem to have any restriction yet. The good news is I do weigh less than I did before surgery and am still working to control my weight and have changed my eating habits drastically. I guess the only advice/encouragement I can offer is it's still early yet in the process and I think sticking to it will pay off in the long run. Try and look at what you have accomplished and just keep plugging away. It may not seem like it, but we are making progress.

just because the scale is not moving as you would like, this does not mean the band is not working. do not compare yourself to anyone else. you need to stay on program, do as your doctor advises and you will see success. maybe not the numbers you are seeking but they will appear...you are still newly banded..healing inside..you have to allow your body to heal.

Today is day 6 post-op for me. I haven't weighed since Friday. However, there wasn't a change in my weight at that time. I decided to weigh weekly and not rely on what the scale tells me. I feel better. My clothes feel looser. So, in my mind, it's all good. For those of us that are still in the liquid stage, our bodies are healing and we are on very limited calories. According to fitness pal.com, my body is in starvation mode, meaning that it is fighting to hold on to my current weight. I know that when I increase my calories per my surgeon's instructions, the weight will come off. Meanwhile, I'm enjoying how it feels to have looser clothing.

You are exactly right Lady.. Our bodies will hold on to Water or weight if we are not providing enough. That is one thing I have learned over the many years of research about nutrition. Once we can eat regularly, and it doesn't have to be alot, our bodies will start burning fat. Yeah!!!

I don't care what anyone tells me from this point on, I'm doing this for me, I will give it my all, and what happens will happen. I'm doing the very best I can and that's all I can ask of myself.

When you say the band won't provide its magic till you start getting fills, you might want to say everyone is different.

I was banded on December 21st, I have not had a fill and as of today I have lost 53 pounds.

My number 1 advice to newbies is to have PATIENCE. The band takes a while to work correctly. For me it was 4 mths and 3 fills. Until then, I maybe lost 2 lbs. I was sure I had failed yet another diet. I was so discouraged. I could still eat the amount I was used to eating post op (no, I didn't weigh or measure anything like I was sposed to) and I felt like I had surgery for nothing.

After my 3rd fill, however, the magic started happening.

You WILL get there, I promise. Just be good to yourself (weigh/measure your portions, don't drink while eating, exercise, etc - you know the drill) until the magic starts! It will be worth it in the end...

I to had surgery on feb 8th and I have lost 6 pounds and gained 2 in one day so your fine! My doctor told me that loseing right now is not the most important part healing! If you lose great the magic will happen! The way I see it this the lowest I have weighed in years so I see that as a victory!

Jerseyguy, you are so right but only if I were making a general comment directed to you the forum and wozzicat but since it was directed solely to wozzicat who has not lost weight so far, it's more than an educated guess that she's going to need fills to make the scale move.

Thanks for the input. I can't exercise yet. Doctor said four weeks. Hopefully once I exercise the weight will come off

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
