My surgeon makes the decision as to whether or not she's using the lap band or the realize during surgery, on an individual patient basis. She decided that, for me, the realize would be the best fit.

Any other realizers here?

I'm just nervous because I read that there was a realize recall in 2010. Not cool.

I have the Realize band. Surgery was April 2012. It was also my Doctor's personal choice to go with it as well. I put my trust in him and so far it's working out great!!

I have the realize band also. I got to chose. I was banded 10/5/12. I've had great results so far.

Neither band is "better" than the other, it's simply a matter of which the surgeon prefers to use and which is best suited for a specific patient.

If you trust your surgeon enough to operate on you, then trust them to pick the right band for you too.

My surgeon left it up to me to choose and I choose the realize band. He said if he were to choose he would choose the same thing simply because their lap band rep never comes around unlike the realize band rep. On surgery day my doc even let me see the band in the operating room before they put me under.

Funny you mention that. My Surgeon has a unique sense of humor...something that I really like. When I was on the table and they were getting ready to put me under he came over and asked me if I was ready. He then held up the band and said "I want to introduce you to your newest and best-est friend. You treat this friend right and work with him the rest is gravy" After that they knocked me out. LOL

Sorry, with my doc it was what I preferred. I was given the option and the differences and I chose the realize band.

My doctor opted for the realize band for my procedure .... and im losing SO MUCH MORE SLOWLY than others with the Lap Band .... Im not sure if the outcome would have been different with the lapband but I cant help but think about it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
