Learning to cook smaller portions

Recommended Posts

I find this the most difficult! I'm wasting so much money on left overs that are just going bad in the fridge..

Anyone else had/have this issue?

yes! I usually just take left over for my lunch at work, but find myself eating the same thing 3 or 4 days in a row because of this issue!

I've been banded a year and I still catch myself cooking too much food. I also take left overs for lunch or I feed the left overs to my chickens, they love it when this happens. lol

I find that I freeze some dishes and have them the next week.

I try to cut recipes in half but I still end up throwing out left overs all the time. But I'm ok with that. I was raised to "clean your plate" and "don't waste food"- and that mentality is part of led me to weigh over 400 pounds.

It's better to throw out left overs than to eat food you don't need.

I have a hard time with fresh fruits and veggies going bad before I can use them. Strawberries seem to go bad quickly. :-(

Me too!!! Well almost 300 at 4'11"

I'm ok with throwing the food out like hunger wise I have mentally hit the perfect diet zone .. I just feel guilty about money lol

I am different. I love to cook huge meals. I eat for few days and then I freeze in individual portions and I always have something ready to go.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
