would you do it again?

Yes, definitely. I had the surgery on Oct 5, 2012. The pain wasn't great, but, I've definitely had worse. I would easily do it again. My only regret is that I didn't do sooner...

In a heartbeat but not because of the pain but because of the life, self esteem and health I have now. The pain was minimal. I've had a c section, Tummy Tuck and breast lift with aug and lap band was very easy compared. You should only have 5 small incisions. Gas pain after was the worst.

Just read your comment about c section and flying. Yea if you've had a section then you will think this is a breeze pain wise. You will however be super tired and wear out quickly so yes you will need wheelchair transport in an airport. The flight shouldn't be bad. Car ride home wasn't bad after band. Much different than section and TT/boobs where I thought the car ride was gonna kill me.

I can honestly say it was almost pain free for me! I did have some shoulder pain due to gas, but nothing that was horrible! You will probably sleep during most of the plane ride home! Good luck!

I'm much the same. It was discomfort not pain. Just painful shoulder with the gas but yes I would!

Good luck

Yes I would do it again. My Dr prescibed liquid vicodin for the pain and i only had 2 table spoons. It wasnt even because of the band but because of the hernia i had repaired. Good Luck

i'm three years and three months out and i would do it in a Heartbeat... LB has had all positive and i have had no negatives...

Gas pain... that's it.

Do not expect changes to be instant. LB is a slow process for some, I was one of them. So don't think your going to wake up thin... Lots of people have the thought... I'm going to have his surgery and i won't have to work for the weight loss..... Yes you will, you will have to wake up every day and exercise... You will have to watch EVERY thing you put in your mouth.... Yes you will have to change the way you eat....

I wish you all the success in the world... good luck

I'm early on in my journey, but yes, I would do it again. I'll admit even though I've had surgery before, this was the first elective surgery I've ever had and on about the third night when I was having difficulty and couldn't sleep I was wondering why I did this to myself, but that feeling goes away quickly. Now when I think about not doing what I'm supposed to, I just remind myself that I didn't undergo surgery for nothing - I need to hang in there. With just the small amount of weight I've lost I already can say it was worth it!

Even with some complications (a minor slip last year) I would absolutely do it again. I would still be 248 lbs (maybe even more) and miserable. The pain really wasn't that bad (it's been 3 1/2 yrs now, so I don't really remember the actual pain)> The hardest part for me was the 4 week liquid diet. I thought I read my post op instructions to say "clear liquid only + Protein shakes" for 4 weeks. After a week of literally starving, I added Tomato Soup and thought I was cheating. Made me feel much better. Then, after about 6 mths, I found my instructions again and read them correctly. It said I could have full liquids, to include cream Soups, yogurt, pudding, and juices. That whole time I starved for nothing and thought I was cheating with the soup! Bummer!

My tip to you: Have patience. You didn't gain the weight overnight and you're not going to lose it overnight. I see so many people on here like 1 month post op complaining cuz they're not losing. It takes restriction (unless you're actually dieting and counting calories, weighing and measureing everything - which I didn't do) to start losing and that doesn't happen (usually) until the 2nd - 4th fill. it was he 3rd for me. 4 mths post op. Thought I had failed yet another diet. You WILL get there, it's just gunna take time.

Good luck with your surgery. And take advantage of the pain killers the hospital give you! I had to spend the night (insurance mandatory) so I got the good stuff for about 24 hrs after surgery. Most people don't spend the night however.

I would not do it again. I was banded in September of 2010. I was the biggest band fan for the first year and a half. I lost all of my excess weight and am now thin. However, I now have major acid reflux and can't sleep at night. I hate this thing. I am revising to vsg in a few weeks. I have to pay for it myself since my insurance says I don't need it due to my normal bmi. I would have to regain all the weight for them to cover it. I don't think so.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
