Has it slipped?

Recommended Posts

Not sure if I'm in the right section but I am worried that my band has slipped. I'm 3 weeks away from my year anniversary (yay) but I'm having bad reflux especially when I lay down and before and after sleep. It seems to be a coin toss when it comes to keeping something down or causing me pain and a second visit from whatever I ate. My stomach feel mildly aches and burning all day but here's the thing... I had a chest and stomach x ray one month ago when the symptoms appeared and it showed nadda. I've tried talking to my doctor but despite telling him I'm eating normally and no junk food or over eating he tells me I must be doing something wrong. Can anyone tell me what's wrong with me or if they've also had this kinda trouble?

Unfortunately it could be a slip, but you won't know until you have the band checked.

Who did the chest and stomach x-ray? Your surgeon or another doc? You need a barium swallow done specifically by your surgeon to check the band placement definitively.

Even if it's not band related, you shouldn't be having refulx regardless. What so many people see as something harmless and just pop antacids for can actually lead to much more serious problems- and even more so if you have the band.

If I were in your shoes, I'd be insisting your surgeon and/or doctor get to the cause of the reflux. If your surgeon refuses to listen to you then fire him and find one that will.

Best wishes and I hope you get it sorted.

Definitely see a doctor! I was having this trouble in December so I went on the 5 day pouch test and for some unknown reason it went away and I haven't had trouble since! The band can be very unpredictable some times! Hope you find the reason for your problem soon. Your not drinking anything carbonated are you? I think that may have been my problem.

Thought I'd update.... I had a lot of problems convincing the doctors something was wrong they countined to insist I was eating incorrectly or to fast or something. Once I managed to convince them it wasn't a mistake they discovered I had a stomach ulcer in my bottom stomach which is treatable and I'm no longer in pain so yay happy ending though I am saddened by the amount I had to argue to convince my doctor that I was not cheating my band and I didn't just want it removed to return to bad habits . Have any of you guys had doctors give you the " fatty fat fat just wants at eat again" talk when you've come to them with a problem?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
