My surgery is one week away and I was wondering what the best things to have ready for after surgery. Also any tips for post op would be great. :)

Gas-x, heating pad, Soups, a good blender, Protein drinks- Preimer Protien form costco, I eat alot out of papercups and bowls heips in Portion Control, Water bottles, decaff tea, coffee, sugerfree flavored drinks and powders.

I hope this helps. Also the first week is the worst but each days gets better. Watching the scale drop is a great reward. But during your healing the weight might be slow at first but you will see results it you follow the DR's orders.

Good Luck and God Bless

I agree with sapcat... Also expect pain, its ok if the first few days you feel like you have no appetite and your stomach area is rumbling doesnt always mean you are hungry i had no appetite the first couple days but remember to get as much Fluid in you as possible to prevent dehydration, walk walk walk, pillows, you may or may not see a weight loss do not be discouraged! I gained 12lbs from all the saline through IV nearly fell over but it eventually comes off and im at my starting weight from the day of surgery and still havent lost any weight remember this is still a healing stage and u may not lose any weight until u get a fill just keep positive! Gas pains suck try everything u can to relieve it if nothing works like in my case do not hesitate to call your dr who gave me a pill to dissolve under my tongue and i also incorporated a Fiber Gummy helped me so much! Sooner than you know you will feel 100% better! Good luck and Congrats!!!

OKAY SO HERE YOU GO...

1: sugar free fruit Popsicles... A lot of them :)

2: Crystal Light, Mio or Something you can add your Protein too so that they are not all shakes.

3: Heating Pad for sure. This is a hidden gem.

4. Make Protein popsicles using sugar free pudding and 1 scoop protein. Helps get your protein in.

5. Gas X and Hydrocortisone Cream to help your scars from itching

6. Some savory broths you love. Or miso / egg drop Soup help a lot too.

7. Rent Movies... don't watch a lot of TV. Too many food commercials to add to "Mind Hunger"

8. A scale to watch your weight come off and keep you focused on getting your liquids in.

9. A pre marked cup with 4oz at each spot so you know you are getting your fluids in.

For GAS pain after..... WALK AS MUCH AS YOU CAN. sleep propped up with 1 arm over your head. Normally the left side will have more pain due to more work being on that side of your body. Try to take deep breaths with your left arm bent over your head. Everyday gets better and better. And sleep with a Crazy amount of pillows.

Cheers to your Success and You are going to do great. Cheers future Banster :)

Everything everyone said +:

Buy a sleeve of medicine cups from a pharmacy (or Walmart). They are exactly 1oz. My dr told me to drink 1 oz of Protein shakes every hour and those came in handy!

Good luck to you!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
